Love letter to Warcraft 3 arcade and vibes. This is a perfect RTS for a chill experience for those who grew up playing Warcraft 3 arcade modes. WC3 meets "We Are Billions". The game has an entire scenario editor just like warcraft or starcraft, so there's HUGE potential for mods and player made maps/scenarios. Full scripting support etc, so we could see all the same amazing arcade games in Darfall if the community takes off. Worth the buy. However, the game has some big missing features. - No free play and the survival maps end WAY too early. In the "survive 4 nights" maps, the final wave is like 1 guy and you maybe have 3-5 units even if you play efficiently. There's not enough time to gather resources and build units and explore the map. Some of the most fun moments in old RTS games (for me) are when you press continue after a victory and just ramp up and sweep the map. In Darfall, the moment you start to get your first T3 unit the game is already over and it boots you to the menu. The bonus objective of killing the demon portals before the last day is also hilariously impossible. You have to kill multiple boss monsters that have 10k+ HP and do 600-700 damage a swing when the strongest unit you can get has 1400 HP. I managed to kill ONE on a "survive 10 days" map on the final night by cheesing it and kiting it around towers for 10 minutes. This wasn't tested by the devs certainly. I would really love an endless mode where the enemies ramp up forever or for some progression elements between levels on the survival world map. Right now it feels like a couple of "levels" that you can replay for a better score instead of a sand box to play in. - No unit grouping or hot keys; and often times melee units will struggle trying to path when walls are involved. The game is designed to be a survival tower defense, but if you've got enemies on the other side of your walls and you send a mix of melee and ranged units to defend; the melee units will try to path around the end map to get over the wall. This wouldn't be an issue if I could individually set a "hold ground" command to a unit group of just the melee. - The game has no aggro system and is very easy to abuse. Enemies will attack the first thing that comes into range and nothing else. This means you can build an army of ranged units and have one melee unit run in circles while the ranged units safely kill the enemy NPCs.

Fun game, but def needing an endless mode - after about 7 nights you just start to get your castle and defenses setup and then the game is over.

I recommend people keep their eye on this game. It's only day 1, while I'd love for games to be perfect for everyone on day 1, it's harder on PC bc of all the different hardware, and and the studio is pretty small! It's amazing what they have accomplished and props to what they have done so far! I don't know if my issues are impacting everyone so I can't say I wouldn't recommend the game yet. My issues with it are tolerable imo, and may not be happening to everyone. It does need performance and QoL updates. ~~The presence of the same memory leak issues from the demo was a little concerning. ~~ After a certain point, the entire game just starts running slower, and movement appears choppy/stuttered. When it happens it will even persist between campaign missions. Fortunately, you can quit the game and it frees those resources up again. It has resolved the issue for me each time but hope it can be fixed. Edit: I had a similar bug in Mind Over Magic, and a few other Unity games. Apparently, sometimes alt-tabbing, or a few other random actions can mess with or interrupt the garbage collection in Unity games and cause memory leaks or permanent degradation but uhhh that still sucks. At some point, the ability to add additional units to my control groups stops working. Whenever this happens I have to gather everyone to one spot select the whole group and recreate the control group. I think we could really benefit from a game speed between the current two. The difference is a bit too much. Movement is a little awkward and it seems like when I click on loot, I have to be super precise and click directly on the center of the loot or else my guy just idles right next to it at the 10x game speed. Sometimes the hero seems to pick up loot automatically, and sometimes I have to click it very precisely. I'm not sure why. I really wish I could press the middle mouse button to rotate the camera, instead of two separate keys. I would love if tab, had the pause in it's cycle as well. I can easily toggle through desired speeds (including "speed 0"), with just the tab button. All that to say, I do think this will be a great game but these things constantly frustrate me as I play. I'm optimistic though, and hope they keep up maintenance and continue to look at feedback bc I think this has potential to be a true gem! GL Devs, I love you and am proud of you.

Played through the first two missions of the campaign (so far), but I gotta say I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It really scratches that Warcraft itch.
