Delete, developed and published by the indie creator PONY, is a minimalist puzzle game that quietly distinguishes itself through clarity of design and elegant simplicity. Released in 2018, Delete does not try to impress with flashy visuals or complex storytelling—it instead focuses on pure, undistracted logic. Drawing inspiration from classic games like Minesweeper while incorporating its own distinct mechanics, Delete presents a deeply meditative and methodical experience. It is the kind of game that doesn’t shout for attention but earns it through smart design and a quietly compelling gameplay loop. The central premise of Delete is deceptively simple: identify and “delete” all red tiles on a grid using logical deduction based on numerical clues. Each number indicates how many red tiles are adjacent to it, and the player must determine the correct positions without making a single mistake. There are no timers, no score multipliers, and no punishments for thinking slowly. This encourages a careful, thoughtful pace that feels refreshing in an industry that often values reflexes over reasoning. The game presents fifty handcrafted levels, each building in complexity and variation, with new mechanics introduced gradually. These levels avoid procedural generation in favor of deliberate design, giving the player a sense of real progression and learning as each puzzle gently builds on the last. The visual and auditory presentation of Delete complements its minimalist philosophy. The interface is clean and intuitive, with clear grid lines, subdued color schemes, and a lack of any unnecessary clutter. There is little to distract the player from the puzzle at hand. Music and sound effects are minimal or entirely absent depending on settings, which enhances the game’s meditative quality. The absence of dialogue or text allows the puzzles to communicate entirely through gameplay, which makes the game universally accessible regardless of language. This also allows the player to enter a kind of flow state, where concentration takes precedence over external noise or narrative context. One of the most admirable aspects of Delete is its restraint. In an era where even indie puzzle games are often loaded with narrative flourishes, unlockable cosmetics, or procedural gimmicks, Delete remains laser-focused on the purity of logic-based gameplay. The challenge is never unfair; every puzzle has a solution that can be found through reasoning alone. There's no reliance on guessing or brute force—each level is an invitation to slow down, observe, and solve. This commitment to fairness and transparency in puzzle design is one of the game’s strongest traits and a major reason why it has developed such a loyal following among puzzle enthusiasts. Community reception to Delete has been overwhelmingly positive. With thousands of reviews on Steam and an impressive approval rating exceeding 95%, it is clear that the game resonates with a specific but passionate audience. Many players praise the way it distills the essence of puzzle-solving into something calming and pure. It’s the kind of game that works just as well in five-minute sessions as it does in extended play. Its low price point also makes it easily accessible, and its support for Windows, macOS, Linux, and the Steam Deck means it’s available to nearly everyone without technical barriers. While Delete is not without its limitations, these are largely by design. It is not a game that seeks to constantly reinvent itself over time, nor does it offer dozens of hours of new content. Its scope is narrow, but within that scope, it is remarkably polished. Some players might wish for more levels or additional content, but the experience it offers feels complete and satisfying in its own right. For those who finish all the puzzles and still crave more, the sense of mastery achieved through completion is rewarding enough to make the journey worthwhile. In conclusion, Delete is a thoughtful, meticulously designed puzzle game that embodies the strength of minimalist game design. It trusts the intelligence of its players and offers a space for calm, focused engagement in a world full of distractions. For fans of logic-based puzzles and those who appreciate a slow, meditative approach to problem-solving, Delete is a small gem that delivers far more than its modest presentation might suggest. It’s a reminder that sometimes the most powerful gaming experiences come not from spectacle, but from silence, simplicity, and thoughtful design. Rating: 9/10

A fun and ambient Minesweeper-like that is in the same category as Hexcells (highest praise, in my opinion, for a logical puzzle game). A bit too short, but still worth the price. An option to see the overlay on hover instead of click would be nice, but that's my largest criticism. Buy if you enjoy Minesweeper, Hexcells, or similar games.

Fantastic puzzle game that puts a spin on Minesweeper. Definitely wish between this and Hexcells that there were more of these games.
