I swore never to buy another Early Access game after being burned often in the past with games that ended up abandoned, however, I relented and picked up Denizen on a small discount despite some negative reviews. Denizen is a game where you pretty much live your own life in a small town. It's chill and engaging and I've really been enjoying playing. Recently I've been working in the pizza place until I earned just enough money to rent a small business with a little stock (video gaming store). As of right now I'm making decent money from my game store while I save up to buying more business premises and a better apartment and vehicle. I love cooking recipes and unlocking more as I level and taking care of personal needs. This game isn't too buggy at least not for me as in I personally haven't come across any game breaking bugs so far, just one crash when I first exited the building but I reloaded and this hasn't happened to me again. I'm also not experiencing any lag despite my rig being pretty old. When I mentioned another (small) bug regarding clothing items, the dev(s) responded within 10 minutes which shows they care. This game has a ton of potential and right now is already fun enough that I intend to continue playing with the hope that more content/options will be added in future updates. This is pretty much the sort of game I've been dreaming of. Good luck to the dev(s) and I have big dreams of this game becoming even better.

I originally was playing a game called "Live The Life", and it's not a bad game for the most part. But then I stumbled upon this game and noticed it kind of plays the same way. So I got this game, and I gotta say, I'm a little more impressed with this game than with "Live The Life". Denizen is a life simulator where you live a life (no pun intended... much) and build up your character. The whole idea is to simulate your life in a simulator, much like "The Sims", only as a Walking Simulator rather than a "point and click". You start out very basic, first home, first vehicle, no job, and just enough money to keep you alive for a few days. Along with trying to make money, you got to keep up with your character's 5 needs. Energy, food, drink, hygiene, and digest. As with any game with needs, you have to deal with your needs with food and drink. You can either head to a gas station to get instant food and drink in your inventory, or you can head to your local grocery store and purchase food items to make at home on your stove. Any foods you buy can then be stored in the fridge, at home, for later use. Foods you buy at the grocery store can also be stored and then be used to cook and put together other foods to make. Once you purchase these foods, just use the stove and you will see a list of foods you need to make the food items in the list. The more you cook, the more you will open up other food items as you progress in experience levels. When you get a job, you earn experience as well as money from your job. The more you work, the more experience you get. The higher your experience level, the more money you make as well as more skills get added on based on the job. I started out working for a pizza and started out only making basic pizzas. As I progressed in my experience levels, I gained more money and also learned more pizza recipes. Other jobs are also every similar, as you progress in your experience, you learn more skills and earn more money. There are other jobs, such as bartender, which also progresses in the same way, but with different pay and different skills to learn,. You can also purchase vehicles from various car dealerships and even upgrade them to make them faster, perform better, and even have better handling. Vehicles range from simple pickups to high-speed performance cars. Some vehicles can be used for jobs, such as delivery, while other cars can be used for drag races. If you plan to be a delivery driver, best to use a pickup or van. As with most life simulators, you can also purchase additional homes. You can purchase homes from your in-game phone. On top of that, you can then furnish your home and even setup your home to be "for rent". Depending on how you furnish your home, you will get a home rating. This rating is used to help you get people to rent your home. The higher the rating, better the offers you will make once you post the home for rent. Homes range from small apartments to large mansions. And of course, with your character you design, you can also purchase additional clothes for your character so you can be fashionable. You will even be rated based on the clothes you wear. This rating is partly used for the job you get, as well as when you meet a friend. So far, I am liking the game and they seem to be updating the game very well. This is the 2nd game I have gotten from this gaming company and they seem to be a more worth-while gaming company I can count on to update their games. I hope that Denizen will be a well designed game for people to enjoy. The only bugs/glitches I have seen so far are as follows (Understand that this is still in "Early Access, I'm just posting this here for reference. Also, I am sure there are more possible other glitches I have not ran into yet, this is just what I have seen so far)... 1.) Don't buy more than 1 vehicle from the same dealership, at a time. When you do, vehicles spawn in the exact same place and will overlap each other. If you use the "Vehicle Re-spawn" on your cell phone, it will practically pull them apart followed by a loud crashing sound. Just purchase 1 vehicle and then take it somewhere to be saved for later, and then purchase another one. 2.) Some places, such as the casino, aren't "fully" working yet. Based on what I saw at the casino, you might be able to "rent" a room, but can't currently be done yet. I say this is a bit glitchy as I was able to walk through the sinks in the bathroom. 3.) Playing this game for long periods of time will eventually cause the game to crash, so don't play the game for much more than an hour at a time, IMHO. There was a time or 2 when it did just crash after 10 minutes of play. I managed to finally make it to "The Vault", which is a dance club. When I managed to get to the dance floor, it started to lag a big from so many 3D objects, and then I got stuck on the dance floor and then the game crashed. 4.) When I was trying to sell my vehicle or rent my home, I couldn't "cancel" people out of the list that were interested, but I was able to "accept". Keep this in mind when you make an offer to sell something. 5.) When I was driving my vehicle, I managed to crash into a street sign and then my vehicle got stuck. I wasn't driving very fast and I was trying to turn to avoid hitting another car. I turned too much and I hit a street sign and the front end of my vehicle got stuck on the sign and I couldn't reverse out. Although it was an easy fix, just use the "Re-spawn" on your cell phone under your Assets app and it will put your vehicle in a different location. Also, just a note, if your vehicle takes physical damage, just sleep til tomorrow and your vehicle will be fixed next day.

This game has a bit of a learning curve, and it does not hold your hand with GPS waypoints, minimaps or other QoL things many other games have. It requires you to figure many things out on your own. that being said, this game is quite fun, albeit missing any substantial content to keep me interested for longer than a few hours a month. I managed to buy all properties but one, all the cars and businesses within the first 20 hours of gameplay, and after that there's not really any end game content to keep me coming back to the game. I understand that it's early access, but the updates are sporadic and honestly not much more than a few hours of novel gameplay and then it sits in my library for 2-3 more months until the drop another, boring update. This game does have a lot of potential, and I do recommend it, but I will warn anyone, that replayability/end game content is SEVERELY lacking. I'd give this a 6/10.

A great game with an amazing lot of potential, content is being released frequently so far, about each two months. It doesn't feel like a risky purchase. Review as of: 0.23.7: currently a 7.75/10 (mostly due to graphics bugs), but could easily turn into a 9.5/10 of the genre in a few months. It's a diamond in the rough, it has many content and freedom that you can't find in a Sims game, mostly because of driving, walking, working, all while controlling your character instead of pointing where they should go. Sadly it uses Unity engine, so characters feel ugly and maybe they'll be the case forever. I'm personally having a hard time playing for long sessions, motion blur always seems on, LOD distance is too short even on ultra settings, and other graphical weirdness. There are a few flaws with the current gameplay loop, but it's stuff that can be solved with updates and QOL features. Not to mention there is a new update planned for the next few weeks, and it'll likely flesh out retail, add jobs and such, so it might make for a great addition to gameplay. Plus, developers are present in the discussions, talking about bugs and accepting suggestions, which is nice and healthy for a game in early access.

To be fair the game plays alright but you can tell the game has a long way to go to be fully released. Performance wise The game is clunky because the game utilizes heavy amounts of GPU when you're inside your apartment or home but when you go outside, the GPU isn't as heavily used anymore and the framerate also starts to drop even though there is GPU headroom for the game to use. The optimization should be re-done. Gameplay There's alot of elements in the game where it seems polished with the game mechanics, business and work you can do to earn cash in the game but once you get above 20k you can't really grow your money as quickly as you could in the early game and because of this slow growth it makes the game EXTREMELY GRINDY which is unnecessary for a game like this. Things like the pizza job and forklift operator which are early game jobs to make money have good design but they don't pay well, fishing on the other hand which is the best job for money is a very boring job and is very repetitive. I am not joking it was so boring I fell asleep at one point trying to catch high value fishes. Fun The game is fun in the early stages doing the heist type activity and running errands which is very similar to the GTA mission design. "Get from point A to B, do something at B and get to C or A" nothing wrong with this style but it just seems like I am playing another GTA with a new map and NPCs. I think this is because of the early access state of the game so I think they will be refining their design and bringing in new ways to do stuff. The business part is fun as its semi-passive and makes you a good amount of money in the beginning. My overall score: 7/10 I think they should just focus on adding more jobs, missions and growth opportunities to the game and more stores to spend your money on. For the price of the game right now I don't think its a worthy buy because of the unpolished state it is in. This game does have untapped potential to be very good in the future but only time will tell.
