TL;DR If a dungeon-crawling, procedurally generated, and multi-layered underground world interests you, give Keplerth a try. Keplerth is a strange game. It's a mixture of survival crafting and ARPG. The RPG elements are pretty light, but it is a dungeon crawler with progression. The first portion of the game is spent wandering around on the surface and collecting materials to build your base, craft items, and find other settlements. Among those settlements are some weird corrupted creatures. After killing the boss of one of the corrupted settlements, you get access to the first underground levels. Every three levels or so, you are required to kill another boss and craft a new item to survive at lower depths. If you enter without the upgrade, you are quickly drained of life and killed. The base building is serviceable. It does, however, suffer from a lack of interesting interactions. You just build a few crafting stations, place plots to grow plants, and build chests to store items. You can spend a bunch of time upgrading the base, but I found it lacking in fun. One use to the base system is gathering survivors and charging them rent. The better you decorate the base, the more money you receive from the people. If invasions are enabled, you'll occasionally have some enemies attack your base. There are traps and walls you can use to funnel and kill them pretty easily. It reminds me of a tower defense game at times. Each of the bosses you fight has their own attack patterns, strengths, and weaknesses. Prior to the endgame, they aren't overly difficult, but until you learn the patterns, you might die a few times. After you defeat the boss of a level, they drop an item you can use to purchase an upgrade item at a space laboratory. Some of the upgrades are useful but some only allow you to craft decorative items. Still, most of them unlock the next few levels of the underground dungeons. The pickaxe is the most important tool underground. Not only do you need it to mine the ore for improved weapons and armor, you also need it to simply dig a path through the underground. Each of the levels are massive. I'm not sure, but I think they are infinite. The play pattern is pretty straightforward. You travel to a lower level, gather materials, make better gear to gather materials faster, defeat a boss, and head to the next few levels. The second most important tool is the torch. You'll need to place hundreds (probably thousands) on each run through the underground. One upside is that enemies don't spawn immediately next to torches. One downside is that torches can be broken easily. They just drop on the floor, but then you have to place them again. Explosives will eventually replace pickaxes until you improve the pickaxe to be able to one-hit every stone and ore. Sometimes when you kill an enemy or gather a material, a rare item will drop. You can use those rare items to create oddly shaped runes that you can place on a talent board of sorts. This is how you upgrade your stats. Some of the improvements are small (like increasing attack damage by a percentage.) Others can fundamentally change how you play the game. You can get improved block, attack speed, or evasion or you can lifesteal or deal retribution damage when hit by attacks. This is the real place where the RPG elements shine through. They aren't amazing, but they do change how you'll approach various situtations. If you've read this far, get the game. It's fun and good enough to kill a few dozen afternoons.

Its a fun survival game with a RimWorld like aesthetic and a very relaxing gameplay experience. Resource gathering feels less tedious compared to other 2D isometric survival games I’ve played.

Game is decent overall. Crops and farming - decent. Pets and mounts -decent . Art style - decent. Dungeons - decent. Enemies - are hit or miss. The AI is very basic and simple but there are standouts... When i think about it they are all "Nightmare" monsters or Bosses... Either way - decent. The combat system is the fun part. There's a lot of variety with weapons and accessories. A lot of things to play around with. Gene editing - is the best thing in this game. Trying different builds are fun and switching between is eazy. But the whole right side of that ui is useless. All knowledge genes will fit into this space, and it's annoying to put them into every build. Notable leftover from development stage. Should have been just passives. I doubt more will be done with this part. I will still mark this system as a good one. Now the thing that brings the last two + into balance. The overall UI - is annoying. The whole game you will be fighting your inventory. There is quick stack into nearby chests, but i count it as basic utility in todays times. No proximity crafting means your options are: every time grab what you need, or grab all craftables into empty inventory and put them back after. (Quick advice. Use the Coo Coo bank for anything marked "craftable".) Every basic resource has a separate crafting bench. The reason for that is crafting ui. It's a basic list. If it expanded with progression it would be a wall of text. Even now some are too long/badly separated. Crafting during progression ends up being a chore untill the end game. Anothier thing. Construction - through the whole thing is annoying. Most vanity stuff you can craft looks very basic and again is spread between different workbenches. The rest you can scavenge or buy, but it's still mostly uninteresting. Next the action of building itself. No expansion to the shovel means when you work on floors, you work grid by grid. And there's no measuring tool. It would probably hurt the eyes but it would be helpful. When you want to break something. Your options are: the tools area, or a single square directly in front of you... Annoying. The whole game is also a bit junky when there's a few things on the same square or near it. Especially with bigger pets. The amount of times i clicked on a different pet / follower than i intended to, or couldn't open a chest because of one is hard to cout. In the end. In anything other than fighting you will struggle. And you WILL need to do this stuff. By the mid game you should have a whole farm or you will struggle with fighting too. In the end. Yes, it's a good combat focused game. But everything around combat heavenly drags the whole thing down. It's not good. It's not bad. A bit annoying tho.

Keplerth has a satisfying mix of survival, crafting, and exploration, one that I personally enjoy. I will note that colony management does seem a bit simple, but for how the game operates I don't personally see that as much of an issue, hopefully it gets expanded on. Genetic Modifications for me do hit that sweet spot constantly allowing you to make a diverse build as you continue to explore. I do recommend Keplerth if you have a few friends and you are looking for a game to play assuming of course you're interested in this type of game looking outward, if you plan on playing solo it's still enjoyable, but definitely nowhere near as enjoyable with friends.
