I haven't gotten to level 1,000 yet, but I'm just noodling around, having fun. I wouldn't call this particularly challenging. Drive & drill around until you fill up your waste bag, then return. Rinse. Repeat. The design-a-drill mini-game is interesting, but not really my cup of tea. I tend to just cheese it and take whatever I get. I'm sure I could go faster if I cared to play that mini-game more. ...but for $4 USD, how can you go wrong? No controller support, but works fine on the Steam Deck using WASD/mouse.

It is an amazing game for relaxing while listening to something in the background. The gameplay is pretty simple and casual, but metaprogression can get quite deep and complex the further you go. It allows you to create really crazy builds for the endgame to absolutely dominate normal mode which feels very satisfying. My latest record is clearing 999 depth in less than 3 minutes while collecting almost everything on the way :) The ruins level also adds a lot of value to the endgame and keeps you motivated to work on improving your build further and beyond.

This is only a positive review if you're willing to stop after Ruins 5. Playing beyond that is not worth the grind. DigDigDrill is an active incremental game. The mining is quite simple, with no gravity or enemies, just dealing damage to blocks, some of which contain ores or chests. Every 100 floors (rows) is a row of blocks that regenerate health after a few seconds, serving as a DPS check. The regeneration rate can be reduced (but not eliminated) by destroying up to 3 healing crystal blocks in the previous 100 floors. Some chests contain blueprints which can be used to craft new drills by solving a polyomino packing puzzle. Each ore is associated with one of six groups of 4-6 "enchants" (special properties). When crafting a drill, an enchant will be randomly chosen from the groups of the ores used to craft the drill, up to four. These skills can be rerolled by spending coins or hammers and sitting through an annoying animation. In the usual incremental game fashion, additional mechanics are progressively unlocked, offering new ways to gain power. For example, two sub-drills can be equipped in addition to the main drill, contributing their enchants but not their damage. I won't spoil the rest in this review. In exchange, the ruins post-game area increases the health of blocks, initially linearly, but becoming multiplicative at ruins 6. While the mechanics are complex enough to support multiple builds, there are well-understood optimal strategies (detailed in a Steam guide). While I am curious if it's possible to complete ruins 10 with a build that doesn't use the optimal strategy, the time required to grind hammers and reroll drills alone is prohibitive, to say nothing of grinding the other mechanics.

I love this game. It's very satisfying. Building drills is fun and challenging. Digging is satisfying. I got 15 hours gameplay for $4, and I consider it quality game play.

Very cool mining game with the option to do a lot of min-maxing! Crafting your own drills with blueprints in tetris style is unique and satisfying. If you want your perfect crafts, you need to get lucky and bring a lot of time.
