This is one of those games I feel is good, but just falls a bit short of being great. It's fun enough to go through, but my annoyances kinda add up and up as I kept playing. RNG is the biggest issue here, it's manageable in most rooms, but in levels designed around pressing certain tiles or picking up gold orbs sometimes a run can just get screwed over because the saws refuse to move away from the spot you need to go while spawning a billion more saws. It gets really bad if you want to go for achievements since they look for 20 seconds in each room and stuff like bosses can be a pain because of this. The main thing that interests me is there are occasionally some puzzle rooms and I honestly wish the game had more focus on these cause I really like solving these rooms. Maybe too many of these broke pacing or something but it just left me wanting more. I should also note I stopped playing around hard mode, not from anything in particular but I just felt like I got everything I wanted out of the game by this point. I do think this is a good game, movement feels good, there's a lot of variety to the saws, upgrades can be interesting, and I would recommend it, but it might leave you wanting a bit more from it.
The game feels kinda small in terms of levels, but the devs packed a ton of interesting things into those levels. There's some very cryptic but fun puzzles going on. Feels like exploring an alien structure you found orbiting Jupiter. Also feels like a minimalist, but very fun indie game about not touching the giant spinning discs.
This game was exactly what I wanted. When you see Devolver, you expect a certain level of polish & responsiveness - fluid arcade action presented in a savvy design context with a bit of an 'adult' edge. That's certainly what you get in Disc Room. Superb gamefeel & control, accessible '1 more run' action, and savvy design in how it progresses and fills out. Low replayability, but still a great value on sale. When you complete the game, you unlock 'hard mode,' which is a remixed second campaign that begins at the opposite end of the map. I felt the difficulty curve was perfect in normal mode, so I can give this a strong recommendation purely based on that experience. Great on SteamDeck.
100% Disc Room on 2/28/2021. The goal is very simple, survive a certain amount of time in each room to progress. Times range from 10-55 seconds, but there is an achievement for surviving 20 seconds in every room and another for surviving 10 seconds in every hard room (both of which are categorized as rare achievement if that provides any basis for the gameplay loop). There are various objectives from surviving to dying in various ways. There are also abilities to unlock and bosses to survive. For such a simple concept the game provides so much enjoyment, avoid the spinning discs of doom as you try to progress and escape.
