April 2026
I honestly wish there was a neutral rating on steam. This game is odd because it does a lot right, but also has a lot of issues that will turn off some players. This is made ever the more clear by the mixed rating on steam. That being said I am giving it a recommendation because this game scared the s**t out of me and that's saying a lot coming from a mega fan of horror. Let's start with the good: -Atmosphere is impeccable -Great visuals -Amazing setting (sure it's a haunted house, but it's well designed) -Should run well on the vast majority of pcs (ran this at 4k on a laptop with 4gb VRAM) -Amazing and varied scares and not overly reliant on jumpscares -Enjoyed the puzzles The scares are singlehandedly why this game gets a recommendation. It's probably in the top 5 scariest games I've ever played. It starts off pretty okay in the scare department, but it quickly becomes tense and nerve racking, with a good variety of scares. As the game progresses, the jumpscares become virtually not existent. This game has some of the most terrifying moments I've ever experienced. Years later I still have PTSD from some of these moments. the TLDR version is If you can stomach he negatives, then this game will scare you... Now onto the negatives: -Pacing is atrociously bad -Some bugs (I never had anything super bad in 1.5 playthroughs) -Ending is a little abrupt The biggest issue this game has and this is precisely why I feel like this could turn people off is the pacing. This game requires a TON and I mean TON of backtracking and you'll find yourself just wandering around the house for many hours until you find what you need to proceed. This bloats the time to complete the game. I understand each person is different but I would say this backtracking added maybe 4-6 hours onto my playtime. My one complete playthrough was about 16 hours. If they had cut out this backtracking, or limited it then the game probably would still have had about 10-12 hours of tighter and more fun gameplay. I understand that this was an indie studio's first offering, but my goodness was the backtracking tedious. So if you try this, just know you will get frustrated at times with all of the backtracking and wandering. So in conclusion, this game is a mixed bag. When it is good, it's masterfully good, but when it's bad it's painfully bad lol But I will say that to this day this game still ranks highly as one that I feel is worth the frustrations because the scares and atmosphere make this a truly terrifying experience
