The new units are a real highlight. They aren’t just reskins or stat tweaks — each one adds personality and tactical depth, making army composition and progression feel meaningful. The dark atmosphere and turn-based combat give the game a unique identity that stands out among fantasy strategy titles. That said, the campaign AI is relatively weak. Once you understand the mechanics, enemy behavior becomes predictable and doesn’t always put up a strong challenge — even on the hardest difficulty you need surprisingly little mechanical mastery, which may disappoint veteran strategy players. Despite this flaw, Reincarnation is still a solid and enjoyable experience over Reinaissance and Resurrection.

10 / 10 THE BEST of ALL THE DISCIPLES and I own all the rest also (cept 1 currently), including the more/most expensive one which is inferior to this IMO! Yeah, just a great feel to it over-all. Like watching a strategy movie that you can jump into at any time. MAY require the major MOD for balancing/maps/fixes, yet even without it you can get some VERY good play!

I really enjoy this version of the game. I have played Disciples 1 & 2 and there are a lot of evolved features and a few weakened ones as well in this title. Generally, I like the stat and ability building of the the party leaders that you can do here. Based on your choices of stats and items you can really make the units focused on certain stats and abilities. The enemy and dungeons encounters can seem like a bit of a puzzle on how to win sometimes, which I like that the game doesn't necessarily show you how to win all of them. However, i have found that if you search the map and consider possible combinations of spells, items, and abilities it is all doable. Finally the lore, style, and atmosphere of this Disciples is very good. The individual unit, item, and spell descriptions are a nice touch. I am impressed with the city building screens for the factions. Each one feels very unique in it's setting and theme. The music is fitting, and the style and graphics are pretty good considering the age of the game. My biggest dislike is probably the hidden experience boost that the AI seems to get in hotseat games. I haven't tried those types of matches much as of the time of writing this. Perhaps they are beatable, but it is an obvious AI cheat that is hard to ignore. Fortunately the match factors such as gold, experience, etc. can be adjusted for each player as well. Also the usefulness and abilities of the thief have been lessened since Disciples 1 & 2. They are still a beneficial unit to use, but they just do less than they did before. It is also a shame that they never got around to getting the Mountain Clans as a playable faction. When playing the campaigns you can tell they had some of the assets for them, but they went under before they could finish them I guess.

How good is Disciples III? First of all, it was made by a totally different company than the first two installments, so the magic behind the series is gone (probably forever). If taken apart part by part, we have: - Gameplay. Probably the strongest side of the game. It's still fun to upgrade your units and fight monsters. Maybe even more than before due to units actually being able to move around the battlefield and having active abilities. AI on a strategy level is totally braindead, though (the same issue as in Heroes 6-7, when AI, after wasting his strong armies, just passively sits in the capital doing nothing). - Art style. The thing for which Disciples II will be remembered forever. Art in Disciples III, on the other hand, just sucks. It's all shades of grey and brown; units look mostly bland and samey. Some are just laughable. Low-poly models only add to the ugliness of the whole affair, but the main gripe is that visual design is bad on its own even without an outdated engine. There is almost no good 2D art; all portraits are just shots of 3D models (which are bad). The game looks like ass, and it's not because it's outdated, but because the whole visual direction is really bad. - Story. Bland, boring, and uninspiring. The Hordes of Undead campaign (which was originally a DLC) is a bit better, but only a bit. Also, I think the writer was not that good at understanding factions of Nevendaar. They just don't feel the same (narratively) as in previous games. - Music. Good, but tracks are too few. The core gameplay is still good (but it gets repetitive from time to time); the rest is a total downgrade when compared to Disciples II. I had my fun with this game, so if you are into the TBS genre, you probably should try this, but only after beating the first two games in the series.
