Update: Okay, I see some people actually beat the last boss with a gamepad, so disregard everything I've said about the gamepad and try it for yourself -------------- One of the best Metroidvanias I have played. The movement mechanic is ingenious; it plays almost like a shooter because you have to aim a lot. However, this makes the game completely unplayable on a gamepad—you will 100% HAVE to use a keyboard and mouse The game is filled with some very clever ideas, inventive uses of the blade, cool enemies, and interesting biomes. The music is also extremely good; I enjoyed every single track. The first area track, in particular, is incredibly beautiful. I guess the only thing this game is lacking is in presentation; the color palette is sometimes not very pleasant to look at, and most of the art looks like something from Slay the Spire. I also really dislike hard saves, which this game uses. Again, you can't play this on a gamepad, but Steam Deck trackpads could probably work if you are good with them Overall, I'm really impressed, but it's sad to see that DOOMBLADE failed to attract enough attention and probably sold poorly, because the game is clever and fresh

8.4/10 Unique kind of gameplay, fast. Clear. I only had to look up one thing because I was worried it was glitch (it wasn't) Very smooth combat Music was good too. Found myself going on youtube because sometimes playing these games I personally play other music or something so I didn't have the most chance to listen to all of it. But going back on youtube I thought it was pretty good. When I payed attention to the story it was kind of interesting ish Cons: The fast travel points weren't as close together as they should've been which led to a lot of walking back and forth. There weren't THAT many enemies but you barely think about it when you're whizzing by everything. But overall great game.

Good looking visuals, pleasant decently varied biomes, fitting music. Devs made some strange decisions regarding how saves work - you'll have to redo all the actions since the last time you saved, including all the collection, kills, purchases, etc. which is a big bummer, as i barely remember what i did a minute ago. Got a big green warning on the main screen that mouse + keyboard is preferred, but i played through with controller and had no problems. Backtracking became super tedious at the end, as i realized too late i should manually mark things i find on the map for later, biggest problem being the shrines that i could not read at first. Some kind of (expensive? hard to find?) upgrade to show leftover collectibles on the map would have been great, even if it's as vague as the one pointing at gloomsouls. Final boss made me mad, the stage with lasers was far enough from the start of the fight that dying and replaying was annoying, and fast enough for me to not understand how to do it. Nearly dropped right there near the end, but accidentally figured it out by chaotically mashing buttons. Movement felt fun most of the time, especially satisfying was navigating using the void once i received up/down charge upgrades. A side/diagonal/omnidirectional charge and more void exits would have done wonders for collectible cleanup. Oh, and there's a fetch quest i diligently followed over the whole map (kinda like talking mushroom in Hollow Knight and spores in Roku's Island), only to find out it's for the worst ending. Dev mentioned it's kind of a bonus and is separate from the real endings, but i remember feeling quite bummed by it. Edit: Forgot to say that my gaming laptop took off every time i ran Doomblade, full fan speed blasting heat every which way, huffin, puffin, struggling to breathe. The game does not look demanding but apparently is.

It was fun enough. Would HIGHLY recommend playing with a mouse and keyboard. Had fun for ten hours then before going to the final boss there was a macguffin fetch quest for six things. This combined with the limited fast travel system killed my desire to finish the game but it was fun while it lasted. Also each boss was very uniquely designed and interesting to fight but most of them had a mechanic that was...annoying for lack of a better word. It took a little away from the experience. Anyway this is a long way of saying I give it a conditional thumbs up

Do not sleep on this off-beat metroidvania. The controls are definitely different from a typical metroidvania, but in a good way. It reminds me of Dandara a little. The world is flavored with heavy metal aesthetics, both in the scenery as well as the story, though you can start to see that with the title font. The ui can be a little rough, but it's more than made up for by having a titular DOOMBLADE that you use to literally plow through enemies. The upgrades are enjoyable, and the story progression was deeper than I expected. I had a really good time beating this.
