this is basically "linda and her multiverse of madness". if you played the first one, you should play this one too, since this game is a filler between the act 2 and before the final boss fight in the first dreadout game.

this feels more like an extension to dreadout than its own game to me. story-wise, it seems like this game takes place before the final boss of the first game, which is cool. i love the new environments and the remixed versions of the old ones. i wanted more clarity with miss siska seeing as she's on the cover art, but there wasn't as much as i expected. nevertheless, i enjoyed this game a lot. the new ghosts were very fun. unlike the first game, i think i only encountered one bug, if that. i felt that linda's journal was under utilized in the first game, and i feel that this game makes it actually helpful without just telling what to do/how to do it. pretty much the only thing i didn't like was how slow linda was, but in her defense she is a 17 year old girl who didn't have the foresight to train to run from ghosts. i also think there was potential for more achievements but any at all is a win. if you liked dreadout, you'll almost certainly like keepers of the dark. HOWEVER. i must warn you. i did NOT see the little black cat ANYWHERE. genuinely heartbreaking. </3 </3 </3 if i play dreadout 2 and there are no cats, i will become violent.

Just finished this one, and honestly, it didn’t hit the same way the first game did (and I already had quite a few problems with that one). The atmosphere is still creepy and there are a few solid scares, sure, but it felt more like a side project than a full game. The story(?) was pretty thin and it lacked the tension and pacing that made the original memorable. The controls are still terrible, and it didn’t help that they decided to add more action sequences with a protagonist who’s still as slow as a dying snail. Do yourself a favor, and play with a mouse and keyboard instead of a controller, that makes things a bit better, at least… And there are soooo many bugs and optimization issues, black screen at startup, not being able to play in windowed mode for long, missing subtitles, and so on, and so on… I guess this is not horrible, I'm willing to give it a thumbs up (a very weak one) but if you loved the first game, this one might feel like a letdown.

If you've played the first DreadOut and though "hmm, I want more of this", then Keepers of the Dark is for you. It's basically a remix of the first game using it's assets, with a new questline and some new ghosts to keep you on your toes. It's not an amazing, must-play kinda deal, but it's fun for what it is.

the combat is so fucking janky and some of the boss fights are infuriating as hell, but if you liked dreadout, then you'll like this game. it might be less scary, but the ghosts are more interesting/thought out, and the gameplay is more fun.
