it did quite good job capturing Majesty magic and the addition of islands was unique enough to have fresh fun. it did scrach the RTS itch, and they did add controllable units mode i belive, which solves main complaints about "majesty-like" genre. Buy it, try it its genunie fun without any modern predatory practices.

Good, meditative gameplay. Some missions was challenging enough, Only minus that missions are very similar and closer to the end of all companies it become boring. Still can recommend for ppl who is looking something similar to Majesty like games

I had a hard time getting into Driftland. I bought it in early access but only really played it years after the final release. I did finish the campaign and got 100% achievements, but the experience was a bit mixed. The campaign gives you most tools right away, with little buildup between missions, which made it harder to get invested. The setting is interesting at first, but it mostly comes down to moving floating islands around. The art style looks nice, though I spent most of the game zoomed out at 3x speed. The game isn’t very challenging until the final mission. I played on Great Mage difficulty; the highest difficulty mostly just adds a lot of economic micromanagement, which slows the game down. Missions generally give you plenty of time to fully build up your economy and army before any attack appears. Research feels slow, but it does become impactful once you unlock the right perks. Heroes and the skill system didn’t feel very important. I mostly ignored skills because managing them was more annoying than fun, and I ended up spamming heroes instead of caring about their builds. I think the game should have focused more on indirect management and make the towns feel more 'alive' or gone fully RTS. The later added on RTS mode feels half-baked; I tried a few missions but didn’t finish the whole list and won’t be buying the DLC. The story is okay, and I liked how the campaigns connect, but the presentation is weak. There’s too much text in awkward places, overlapping events leading to missed dialogs, and confusing mission intros, which made it hard to follow at times. Overall, I did enjoy my time with Driftland, but I also wouldn’t feel like I missed much if I hadn’t played it.

Basically an updated version of Majesty with a floating island mechanic thrown in. I really like games that don't let you have direct control of units & I wish more developers would experiment with this kind of thing.

Set all of the resources setting to the left, and this game turns into a slow and chill game.
