This game mostly hits the spot for people who already have some nostalgia tied to it. If you’ve never played it before and you’re not into retro gaming, then honestly, it’s probably not the best place to start - it just won’t hit the same. To be fair, the game does have its charm. The vibe of New York in 1978 is done really well: the music, the visuals, the whole atmosphere — it really pulls you into that late-70s mood. Around the halfway point, though, there’s a sharp twist and suddenly you’re in 2006. And almost everything changes - the style, the soundtrack, the UI, the cars. They even took the Twin Towers into account: in 1978 they’re there, in 2006 they’re gone after the tragic events of 9/11. You can tell the devs actually tried to stay true to the city and how it evolved. But along with those strong points - the soundtrack, the setting, the variety of vehicles — the game drags a bunch of issues with it. The city is big, sure, but it’s dead. You can drive around, yeah, but that’s basically it. Walking is allowed, but the world feels empty and purely decorative. The shooting? Absolute crap. Honestly, they should’ve just skipped gunplay altogether. Aiming is trash, and the whole combat system feels half-baked and annoying. I also wish the 1978 segment lasted longer. The time jump is cool as a concept, but the 2006 visual style just isn’t as appealing - it loses that charm the first half had. As for the story - it’s not terrible, but nothing special either. Classic crime-action stuff you’ve seen a hundred times: you start as a nobody, make connections, take on a big job, everything goes to sh*t, the main guy gets screwed over, everyone else gets away clean, and then it’s payback time. Sorry if that counts as a spoiler, but let’s be honest - nobody is playing this for the plot. It’s predictable as hell. In the end, it’s a nice nostalgia trip. But I doubt someone who’s never played it before will walk away impressed. Ubisoft basically tried to make their own GTA, and this Driver entry feels the closest to Rockstar’s style - but let’s not forget it came out in 2007, and GTA 4 launched the following year. The gap in quality is obvious, even considering budgets and studio scale. My rating: 6.5 out of 10.

Still a Hidden Gem from the Sixth Gen Era I played Driver: Parallel Lines back in the PS2 days, and I remember it feeling tough—maybe it was the scanlines on my old CRT TV, the clunky PS2 controller, or just me being a clueless kid. Fast forward to today: I fired it up with a few quality-of-life mods and tweaks, and ended up beating the campaign in just two sittings. I didn’t even realize I’d finished it—it felt that short. But short doesn’t mean bad. The missions are all unique and fun, and the game still holds up surprisingly well. Honestly, I’d take this over some of today’s bloated open-world games. My only gripe? The game loves swapping out your custom car for a rusty jalopy in certain missions, just to make things harder. Let me drive my own ride! Vehicle handling is totally arcade-style—unrealistic, but fun. Tap the brakes and your car stops on a dime. Gunplay is weak, but the game knows it and throws plenty of health pickups your way to balance things out. The real highlights are the missions, the simple but effective story (with a twist I won’t spoil), and of course, the driving. It’s wild that no one’s talking about this game or pushing for a remaster. It’s goofy, straightforward, and just plain fun—pure sixth-gen nostalgia. The price is fair for what you get, and honestly? Grab it before someone decides to remaster it and yank the original off the store.

Way ahead of its time .The first part of the game happening in 1978 and the second one in 2006 is a genius move from the developers.

Works great on steamdeck after configuring community controller + Downloading the ultra wide mod & the ‘Restore original vehicle camera positions’ This is the underrated Driver game. It answers the age old question of “what if GTA cops got on you for violating traffic laws” and the enemy AI is really well scaled. They’ll remember your person and/or your car depending on what they have seen you do. This is a step up from Driv3r and doesn’t have the same motion sickness issues that Vice City does, but some occasional flashes can be bothersome This game would probably have been delisted, but they removed some of the soundtrack of songs with expired rights. Its really easy to get these back on to the game “for an original experience,” hopefully they bring the other Driver game back

Nostalgia pur is an absolute gem that continues to impress, even years after its original release. As a fan of classic driving games, I was beyond excited to revisit this thrilling open-world action game, and I can confidently say it exceeded all expectations! From the very start, the game captures your attention with its engaging story, set in the vibrant city of New York, across two different time periods—1978 and 2006. The narrative is captivating, full of twists and turns, and keeps you hooked throughout your journey. The dual timeline is a unique feature that adds layers to the plot, making it an unforgettable experience. The driving mechanics are smooth, precise, and incredibly satisfying. Whether you're zooming through crowded streets, engaging in high-speed chases, or executing jaw-dropping stunts, Driver® Parallel Lines delivers an exciting ride every time. The variety of vehicles is impressive, and the open-world environment allows for endless exploration and fun. What really stands out about this game is the level of detail in both the world-building and the soundtrack. The city feels alive, with pedestrians bustling about, cars whizzing by, and every corner offering something new to discover. The soundtrack, which perfectly complements the '70s vibe, brings a sense of nostalgia and energy that keeps you immersed in the game. Despite being a bit older, Driver® Parallel Lines still holds up remarkably well, offering a fun, action-packed experience that never gets old. The combination of exciting driving, engaging missions, and memorable characters makes it a standout title that any fan of the genre will enjoy. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to the series, this game is a must-play. The timeless appeal of Driver® Parallel Lines proves that great gameplay never goes out of style! I really love the Drivers game and I hope that one day I can buy Driver 3 on steam! 10/10 ! Get Goo Goo Alu!
