♦ 100% Completion Review ♦ Outline: ▪ Dungeon Warfare is a classic style, grid-based, top-down Tower Defence game. It doesn't really do anything wild, different, or new, but it doesn't need to. The format it time tested, and it does it to the letter. Gameplay: ▪ As you'd expect it's a straight-forward, level-based, mouse driven affair. Start a level, click to place traps, and kills generate cash to place more traps as the wave intensity increases. Then, outside of a stage you can spend other currency to unlock and upgrade your traps and abilities. All of that is as standard as you can get, but it's a very well made and polished experience. Lots of variety in levels, traps, abilities, strategies, and so on, that make it a cut above its peers. Visuals: ▪ A nice, standard pixel aesthetic. If a bit drab, though. The visual effects, enemy design, etc, are done well enough so that there is no difficulty in readability. Music & Sound: ▪ The music would be one of my main criticisms. While it is serviceable and uses a retro sound palette, it is ultimately very boring, humdrum, and repetitive. There are no tracks that bop. No melodies or anything to get into. It's just plain background. Which, to me, is always a big disappointment in a game. Nothing I love more than finishing a game, and then going through it's soundtrack and adding the best tracks to my music library. This is not one of those times. Otherwise, the sound is fine. Everything sounds as one would hope, pretty much. Story: ▪ N/A Achievements: ▪ A fine list of achievements with no nonsense achievements from what I recall. Just the usual set of progression, completion, and a handful of meta challenges. Good stuff. Verdict: ▪ It is what it says on the tin, and you know if you want it or not. I highly recommend it to Tower Defence lovers.
AN excellent tower defense that offers much more depth that it initially appears to have. The game gives you almost complete control over how you build your defenses and manipulate the enemies paths, which makes every level very satisfying to solve. 100% steam achievements Time : 41.3H Completion Difficulty : 4/10 Playthroughs : 1 Missables : None Guide Recommended : Yes- for discovering the secret level. Notable requirements : Complete all stage with 6 runes, all specific achievements and discovering the secret level.
The first one of the Dungeon Warfare saga, is still a great game in comparison to its followers. While more subdued and with less variety than the later games, I appreciate the harder progression and more limited powerups of the game. Great even to come back after Dungeon Warfare 2. These games are the best Tower Defense games in the market.
