Did I do the right thing by playing this game for the first time ever in 2026? Oh boy... I definetly did. Insanely good action game with satisfying combat and platforming. The story was unfolding slowly at first, but the ending blew me away so hard that it will haunt me forever. Plays very well on the Steam Deck. I am still wondering how Pigsy picked up a name like that...

Enslaved is one of those where the gameplay is incidental to the overall experience. It's linear with some minor exploration to collect what are essentially orbs of XP for beefing up the protagonist. There's some perfunctory melee combat with your standard light/heavy attacks, dodge, block, etc. There's also ranged combat that's limited by ammo that's collectable on the field. There's also some "press button to make jump happen" platforming and switch hitting puzzles. Mostly inoffensive stuff if a bit clunky, especially when the camera just decides to do whatever. Where the game shines is the overall adventure. The art style, story and performances by the actors come together to make something special. In an era of massive budgets and games that try to keep you trapped in their store front eco system this was one of the earlier examples of how much you can do with so little and it still holds up when taken as a whole.

i haven't finished playing through this game. when i started i thought i bought the 2nd game in a series because it dumps you in so much of that feeling. that is not the case. it runs great on my work laptop. neat. it's really enjoyable to play. a top-tier experience on a computer that isn't meant to do that at all. and the graphics hold up as far as being sufficient to carry the experience. (it's not realistic, but it's sufficient to be immersive) this is lowkey an outstanding game. the combat is basic and fun (my preference; combat is just a hassle), and puzzles and problem solving is the main focus. it's good-linear. often combat is just a type of puzzle, which i like. the interaction between the protagonists is fun and interesting. the setting interesting and predates the obsession with post-apocalyptic, so it lands softly. this game is broken out in to puzzles and combat experiences. that was a consequence of the technical limitations at the time, but now it makes it so you solve an area and move to the next. it's rewarding and fun. the motion capture and cinematic bla is neat. it's still outstanding in 2025. i hate that you have to collect orbs, but it doesn't seem to be terribly important for advancing. shrug. _____ this feels like a game that's just fun and it doesn't matter when you play it. i think i got it for 3 dollars? i don't see paying top dollar for this, but at a discount (or if your traveling with a work computer like i am) this is an excellent experience that isn't on anyone's radar. easy to recommend.

Can confirm it is a game where you play as Andy Serkis monkey man in post-apocalyptic New York. Deserves more attention and a remaster.
