Eternal Afternoon is one of those games that won't click with everyone, but it definitely clicked with me. The story is told in a subtle, abstract way, and you really have to read between the lines to appreciate what it's trying to say. If you're expecting everything to be explained directly, you might not enjoy it. I personally loved piecing everything together. The atmosphere is fantastic. It's melancholic, a bit depressing, and somehow captures that distinct Eastern European vibe that makes everything feel nostalgic and strangely comforting at the same time. I played it in one sitting (actually, several playthroughs back to back). I read every single dialogue and genuinely enjoyed the writing and the characters. My only real complaint: what was the point of collecting all the kites? I gathered every single one and never got any reward or acknowledgment for it. That felt disappointing after putting in the extra effort. Even with that minor frustration, I had a great time. This game accomplishes what it sets out to do, and it left a lasting impression on me. If you enjoy narrative-driven games with an emotional atmosphere and don't mind connecting the dots yourself, I can definitely recommend Eternal Afternoon.
A very beautiful and melancholic game. Even though i cannot connect with this game like many others did that grew up in such areas and countries, i still felt the innocent childhood and nostalgic memories that the developer tried to tell and recreate. Very very beautiful experience nontheless.
Time, age and fading memories of the past Honestly, I'm not even sure where to start. My first introduction to the game was a couple of months ago, when a friend sent me a teaser. At that time, it looked pretty decent, and honestly, i wasn't expecting much more than a running-around sim with a certain theme ( AKA Israel of 2000's ). And at last, one evening, i bought and booted up the game for the first time. I was met with the main theme and a weird feeling... Almost, like a fragile memory of the past or a flashback. For me, almost everything in this game from the tiles on the floor of Sasha's apartment and the little stickers & paintings in the lobby of the house, to the overall architecture of the buildings built in the 70's, brought a very strange mix of nostalgia, childish joy and sadness. The characters you meet along the way are strangers, yet, seem very familiar. And even though you don't expect much from an NPC in a game nowadays, Alex Klexber has managed to make them almost real. Every single one has it's own thoughts and methods to cope with the situation. The children, for the most part, are still enjoying the little time they have outside. Some, play with their milk caps, some prefer to just run around and enjoy their (perhaps) last afternoon. The adults, on the other hand, are slightly more worried. Panic collides with different ways of acceptance. Yet, deep inside, everyone realize that nothing can be done. Although i was born and raised on the other side of the same city, it doesn't matter. This game is a deep dive into the past for the good, and of course for the bad. And after a short while, you can almost experience the faint smell of those days as a child. When stuff were a little more simple, and a bit brighter. - Thank you, Alex, for this wild experience. Your wave might not come in twenty minutes, but it will come eventually...
Excellent game!!! The plot, the storytelling, the music, the side quests and the creator is so cute. Anyone who thinks the game looks superficial or boring on the surface will be surprised by the depth of the story and the complexity of the characters. Highly recommended!!!
What an incredible game. As someone who grew up in the 90s-2000s Israel as ole hadash from Ukraine, and is now in my 30s, it hit me somewhere deep. The kind of nostalgia that actually hurts. It's rare that a game captures that specific feeling: the weight of time passing, the bittersweet awareness of time passing, that certain moments are already behind you before you even noticed them. It hits even harder because I have kids of my own now. Thank you Sasha.
