I've played for over 100 hours and almost all of them have been enjoyable. I received good value for my money. I want to continue playing the game and have an interest in getting all the achievements, but I won't. In my opinion, this game should still be in early access, not full release. If you like management games, there's a solid core game loop with an engaging background story and lore. The game gives enough tutorial to play, while leaving many mechanics to discover. I hope these developers continue with their project and I am eager to play again if significant development occurs. The graphics are fine, a little unremarkable. The art on loading screens is great but it doesn't translate to the graphics style at all. The game feels poorly optimized, I have a new machine that runs almost all games on ultra without issue, but this game chugs and gets consistently framey after mid-game, without putting any demand on my machine. The game breaking issue for me is the AI. When there is a lot happening it's easy to overlook, but when things slow down a bit it's easy to see the flaws. I have no interest in waiting 20 in game days for a 5 man team's sleep/meal schedule to randomly sync up so that they can go on a mission. Much of the weak coding is hidden by game loop complexity and giving player control to minimize the choices the AI has to make. The end game grind/replay value would be fine for me if it was just the game mechanics, but staring at the screen watching gaters live their best life like they don't have a mission set for weeks at a time just isn't fun. There are several other AI flaws, many of which are corrected by a save/load, but this to me is the worst. So, for now at least, I'm done. If this was early access I'd have no complaints, but as full release it's just not there. Buy the game but temper your expectations.

I have to say, I have enjoyed days of learning and playing this game. Until today. I lost. I wasn't defeated. In fact, I was growing my territory and defeating the enemies. No, I lost because the game arbitrarily decided enough turns have occurred and so awarded victory with the highest number of points. Wait, what? Seriously? Now it appears I wasted days of my life going after a victory that would not possibly because of a previously unknown time limit and a scoring system. I then decided to join the Discord server, which is woefully inadequate and doesn't even work. So I can't comment there and request an option to let the game play out until victory is assured. As a Stargate fan, this was fun to play and brought memories of the tv series'. But come one guys, a scoring system to end it and a time limit?

Good game & motivating main game loop ("just send a research team to one more planet.."), motivating mix of base building and strategic expansion. Took me about 20 hours to finish the "main quest" on standard difficulty. The playthrough would be worth another 10 hours of gameplay easily to wrap up everything. Balancing wise, with standard difficulty, it felt maybe a bit too easy - money was not a limiting factor anymore after couple of hours, only various resources mostly because of questionable worker assignment behavior. Some details should be revisited, such as defense outposts on planets. Why spend lots of resources for building outposts and levelling up to L10, if after an enemy takeover attempt - even if you defended the planet successfully - the outpost completely disappears and has to be re-built from scratch..? The game was running mostly stable (1 crash in 20 hours gameplay), but I noticed a few issues (e.g. audio desync happening after 4-5 hours playing, restarting the game fixes this), and performance in late game with base built to the max is a bit problematic when enabling the highest speed setting (playing in 4k resolution, even on 12-core Ryzen 7900X with 32G RAM and RTX4090 graphics frequently start stuttering). Can recommend this game, and hope after a few software patches it becomes even better.

TL;DR: you should absolutely play this if you've ever watched a non- Universe episode of Stargate , ever played Evil Genius , or enjoy lighthearted science fiction and low-stress management games. If none of that applies: how does Theme Hospital meets Strange New Worlds sound? Exogate Initiative is a delightful management/4X/base building game that absolutely nails the semi-whimsical, sometimes-serious, but never self-serious tone of its source material. I cannot imagine a more fitting Stargate game, and at this point it's pretty obvious that we'll never get a (decent) one in the franchise. But now that Exogate exists I honestly don't think I'd bother. Just pretend that the game you're playing is called Stargate: Cheyenne Mountain and you'll be pretty much 90% of the way there. Mechanically, it's a simplified Evil Genius -- easy to pick up, easy to play, but with fewer features and extraneous moving parts. Is it a bit janky? Is it a bit overstuffed? Are parts not fully (or at all, see 'Early Access' label) fleshed out? Sure. Is it fun as hell as a chill management game with some really fun bits of interstitial story? Absolutely.

Played version 0.8.7 This is a fun little game. It's a combination base-builder and expansion/exploration game that reminds me thematically (but not in playstyle) of X-Com. The base-building part of the game is similar to Evil Genius. You're hiring staff, paying salaries, digging out rooms and placing furniture. The exploration part of the game is sending teams on missions to other worlds, where they can bring back samples that become science points to level up technology or encounters where you can make key choices for your team. The encounters remind me of Star Trek, although some are darker or sillier than you'd see there. Right now the game is perfectly playable - you can research dozens of technologies, expand your base, explore the galaxy, and deal with an existential crisis - the invading Sqorb drones. That being said, the devs are still working on two more updates that are supposed to add other factions to the game, which sounds like a good feature for the mid- to late-game. The graphics in the game are all right, but faces are especially old school and a bit disappointing. The game seems to run well even on slower machines, although I've had it freeze when I played for many hours in a day. There's some balance issues - right now it's a little too easy to make some mistakes early on that can make it possible to get into a spiral of losing battles against Sqorbs. Once you figure out how to avoid that, the game is a little TOO easy. Which isn't bad - I find the base building and exploration angles of the game to both be relaxing once you've got them going. Side note: The number of hours I have with the game is a little misleading. First of all, my eight-year-old son has decided it's his favourite game. He started by watching me play, then moved on to going through my base and poking around, then went on to missions, and then I came back to find he'd defeated the Sqorbs once and for all. He's awful at managing money, but otherwise finds the game to be fun. The other big time sink in the game is the event editor. You can make your own away missions and add them to the Workshop to be downloaded, which is neat - but you do so within the game, so the hours you spend making missions gets added to your playtime.
