i'll start with the negatives because there are a few -the overworld and main hub is bland, it feels like how sega made sonic unleashed work on the wii versus xbox/playstation, overworld is flat and is essentially background images, its just point and click where to go, which makes it a lot less immersive, but its not really a isue due to another negative aspect we'll tackle in a bit -the combat IS fun but you start out in a grindy no-fun way and you basically only get good ways to grind character exp/weapon and skill etc exp after like the halfway point, its made intentionally that way but it IS rewarding by the end (especially fangs 2nd ult, force impact, but the way to get there takes a while, the combat movement when selecting the area your attacks hits is also very finnicky and you cant really get used to or gauge it imo -the movement... oh my god the movement is just so bad, the only way to remotely speed it up is dashing at breakneck speeds and its hard as balls to control the direction while also trying to avoid mobs -needs audio balancing for cui or the ability to turn cui off during battles, cuis screech is literally eardrum piercing if using earbuds -some mid-boss battles will overwrite other music, even the ult forme music that would normally overwrite the present battle theme, which is annoying (mostly since i just didnt personally vibe with the mid boss battle theme) now for the positives -very good OST, the godly revival selection OST is absolutely smashing -funny characters and interactions, even the NPC interactions felt like a progressively side story -the story is a little bit generic BUT it has some good twists, turns, character growth (character degeneration as well) and offers a whopping 3 routes so the replay value is great plus the NG+ gives you a lot of bonuses -attack animations are cool -if you put in the work you can even recruit select enemies -godly revival and by extension, world shaping, is interesting as a concept and allows for a bunch of mixing and matching your playstyle, theres some for everyone, really in conclusion: the game is IMO worth its price point and you'll get at least a good 45+ fun hours out of it even if theres some inarguably negative aspects about the world/traversal design philosophy

Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force is a JRPG that mixes lighthearted character banter with a surprisingly big game behind it. It has that Compile Heart vibe: colorful cast, lots of dialogue, and a tone that can flip from goofy to serious depending on the chapter. If you enjoy story-heavy anime RPGs, it’s easy to settle into. The combat is turn-based but built around momentum. You’re not just picking “attack” and waiting—positioning matters, hitting enemy weaknesses matters, and chaining actions feels rewarding once you understand how the systems fit together. Battles start simple, then gradually open up with more options and bigger numbers, and the game becomes more fun when you’re planning turns instead of auto-piloting. A key mechanic is the whole “Fury” and skill setup side, where you customize what characters can do and how their abilities link together. It’s not the deepest system ever made, but it gives you enough control to build your party your way. You can lean into raw damage, support-heavy setups, or balanced teams, and the game is forgiving enough that you don’t need a perfect build to progress. Exploration is more functional than exciting. Dungeons are straightforward corridors with enemies and loot, and you’ll revisit similar-looking areas. It’s not a game you play for breathtaking level design, but it works because the pace is quick: you clear fights, grab items, and move on without getting stuck in puzzles for too long. The story is where Advent Dark Force tries to stand out, mainly because it offers multiple routes. Your choices and progression can lead you down different story paths, which makes it more replayable than a typical linear JRPG. The routes also change how you see certain characters, so doing more than one run can feel like you’re getting extra context rather than repeating the exact same plot. Presentation is very “anime JRPG”: expressive portraits, flashy skill animations, and a soundtrack that keeps things upbeat. Some parts show their budget, especially in environments and repetition, but the game usually makes up for it with charm and character interactions. If you like the cast, you’ll tolerate the rougher edges. Overall, Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force is a solid pick if you want a long, dialogue-heavy JRPG with customizable combat and multiple story outcomes. It’s not polished in every area, and dungeon design can feel plain, but the battle system and routes give it enough hook to stay engaging. If you’re already into this style of RPG, it’s an easy recommendation.

just your typical jrpg. comedy, dungeon, leveling, main story. kinda boring till it makes you sleepy while grinding tho. still the 3 different endings makes it worthwhile.

Fang best protag That's kinda why this game's getting a positive- it's got some charm and humor that's stuck with me for years. Overall as a game it's middling- a little clunky, easy to break, moderately by the numbers linear and held up by the characters and quirks. So it's a hit or miss game overall. Well worth it on discount even if you just do a single playthrough. Me? I'm finally going for the full achievement run as this is the second purchase of the game for me.

It is cheap. It has some fun moments. Nothing much. If you can get it on a sale, it is worth it. I paid like 5 bucks for the full game with DLC, so yeah, I would recommend it on a sale.
