Now that Fantasy Grounds VTT is free, it is WAY easier to recommend it to others. I start using the older version (Fantasy Ground Classic), and then upgraded to "Fantasy Grounds Unity" - which was later renamed to Fantasy Grounds VTT. In older versions, everyone at the table needed to buy Fantasy Grounds OR the Dungeon Master needed to buy a $120 lisence, which would allow players to use the Demo. In the current version, everyone can play for free! with the only cost being books for the system you want to run. Fantasy Grounds allows for many TTRPG systems. My only realy gripe with the software is that the way it works for Players and Game Masters is VERY different. As a Game Master, I find I am rarely able to help my players with any questions they have about the interface, or how to actually use the software. It works great for everything I need, I just wish there was a way for Game Masters to switch into "Player Mode" and actually see what the players are seeing to help them. While I do have over 2,000 hours into this at the time of writting, it is important to keep in mind that some of this time is spent prepping adventures, and in some cases - just leaving the server online so my players are able to input data for their characters. That said, I play A TON of Dungeons and Dragons, so its probably not THAT far off in the grand scheme of things.

Getting me to even consider trying to be a dungeon master is an accomplishment. Expect to spend a lot of time in and out of Fantasy Grounds just learning all of the mechanics. There's a lot you can do. Now that you can read the books you've purchased online instead of through the game as an option, it's a little easier to justify those purchases.

Yes! works on GNU/Linux so I am happy, no web technology, no browser javascript shit, a real desktop/system program, also have a lot of cyberpunk red modules, Preparing my first campaign on it, so will update the review after!

This damn thing is archaic, clunky, difficult to learn, difficult to master, user-unfriendly, has absolutely no cross integration with anything else which forces you to buy any books you want to use easily a second time, almost always for the full price of a hardcover copy. It's been around for fuckall ever, I have over 400 extra hours on what they now call the "classic" version of the program. It supports almost every major tabletop system I've ever heard of (except Lancer, I guess?) and once you get a handle on it, it's an incredibly powerful program. We're able to import mechanics into games that don't even have them with a little finicking. This is not for everybody. I haven't used much of any other VTT (except Tabletop Simulator, and that's more for any other tabletop game for me. But if you can get past ALL that, I strongly recommend Fantasy Grounds for any tabletop rpg it supports. I absolutely wouldn't blame you if you couldn't get past all that. Because it's a lot.

Overall, I love it. There's a lot you can do and automate and its flexibility is wonderful. That being said, it has some quirks and it's not the easiest software to learn. I do love that players don't need it though!
