If you played the original FATE games as a broke poor kid on your eMachine from BigFishGames to play as much as you could of the demo, you can stop reading this review and just buy this game. The mixed and negative reviews are mostly about bugs, which were pretty bad on release, however the Devs have already had two patches fixing a tonne of user suggestions and bugs and are actively improving on the game, I think if we give them some time this will easily surpass the old games with modern QoL features. At it's core, the game is basically the same.

While I grew up playing the originals, this game does bring back that nostalgia for me. Bringing back this series was a dream come true, but of course, I too have a lot of nitpicks on what was changed for this "remaster": Pros: *Updated Graphics are amazing. *Being able to play all 4 game at once. *Fishing let's you see what you caught, even if you fail. *Having all Races from Traitor Soul and Cursed King *Having all different pets from said games *Having said games extended armor, such as capes and earrings *Pet inventory is basically the same from The Cursed King. Cons: *Walking Animation uses a slower Running Animation. *Attacks feel less consistant. *Fishing often takes anywhere between 30 seconds to a full minute. *Monsters don't actively move around unless the player is. *Pet often gets stuck after sending it to town. *Gold has become more grindy than the original. *Drag and Drop mechanic isn't all that useful. *Having to Right Click on gems in order to socket them kinda sucks. *Music is just reused from the original, not even a remix or anything. *Scroll wheel doesn't zoom out. Nor does using W or S as an alternate.\ *Player inventory feels smaller? Not being able to carry nearly as much. *Sometimes your character will get stuck against walls that are cornered, like if two wooden beams are parallel with each other, you'll get stuck for a moment. Sometimes just against the wall itself. While this "remaster" isn't what I had expected, it does make it more accessible to play all 4 instead of having to launch it individually. Plus, once you make a descendant, you can port them to later games to have a really cool story. Fate: Reawakened is a step in the right direction, but some patches later on should make it much better to play. If you feel that you got cheated out of a good remaster, I can't blame you. But I think this game should be given the chance the same way the originals did.

30 minutes into the first game on my Steam Deck, runs pretty good…. No issues yet. I’d say it’s worth it so far especially since you get all four games and it’s formatted for a controller whereas the original game is a nightmare to run on a controller!

FATE was one of the first games I ever played, and the first dungeon crawler, so I was excited when I learned that there was going to be a remastered version. Most of my time playing this series of games was spent in the original FATE, and playing an hour or so of that same game in this release, I have good and bad to say. Obviously the biggest feature of this remaster is the upgraded visual style, and I think the developers have succeeded in this goal. The game looks stunning in many ways, and personally some design choices with the UI I can live with. This game was never meant to be a 1:1 recreation, after all. I'm a big fan of the original audio being used, from the narrator to the music to foley and other sound effects. All of it is sill a perfect fit for a FATE game, and to recreate it all would be a big challenge. In looking at some of the bad however, I wanted to consider what makes FATE, FATE. To me, it's a big loop game: Explore a floor, kill enemies, loot, finish quests, and return to get stronger. With this in mind I feel the mechanics of how the game play loop operates are very important, and while there are innovations to it, there are also some big drawbacks that I have noticed so far. I won't list everything out in detail to keep this review readable, but... Showing enemies on the mini map? Great! Can't sell directly from your pet's inventory in vendor screens? Bad New spells and items to try out? Great! Fewer quick item slots? Bad More item slots on a character? Interesting, potentially balance breaking though Being able to tab to second builds? Neat, but I don't know as I will ever use it Item descriptions relegated to one corner of the screen? Disorienting I would also be negligent to not point out a few technical issues I've noticed so far. The game appears to be running well enough without any frame issues or audio bugs, but there have been other issues popping up, including but not limited to: - Quest givers giving new quests for already explored floors - Enemies showing as alive on mini map, only to be revealed as defeated when you get close enough - Book of Town Portal not summoning a portal or counting down usage when in pet inventory - Changing a piece of equipment requires dragging the item out of the slot, then a replacement in, rather than quick swapping - 'Revived' enemies spawning in and dying upon dungeon level reload, with the loot sounds able to be heard across the level - Finding Flawless level fish on the first floor of the dungeon (And what the heck is that troll (actually a goblin) riding a saber-tooth pet??) Overall, I would say that this is a decent remake of FATE, at least for the first game. Some good changes have been made to revitalize the game, classic features are still present for better or worse, but a range of technical quirks mean that this game needs a bit of work still. I think the developers should tackle these issues soon, so that people fond of the original games can have a great time reliving a classic.

So much fun. Everything is better except for two things I noticed. Some item textures look really bad in the UI, and the controls are the same jank from the first game. Other than that, this game continues to grow and improve. There are a lot of new details in environment, and graphics. I just cant help but think its only a shader with UI over the same exact game we already had. There are a few new things, but it feels unfinished, or at least unpolished. I was expecting more polish, and refinement. It feels like a mod the community could have made.
