This one has some negative feedback online, and to be honest, I can see why. I don't want to give it a negative review because ultimately we did enjoy it and I think it is worth catching it on sale, but for £30, it's just not good enough imo. When comparing this to Lorelei and the Laser eyes, which is £12, we spent 11 hours on this, 37 hours on Laser eyes. Laser eyes had us taking notes and figuring things out. We never touched the notepad at all for this game. Cyan seems to either make games that are great, or games that are fumbles, and this one feels like a bit of a fumble.

This is where I wish Steam had a star rating system because I'd give it a solid 3 stars. I recently finished playing Myst and Riven in VR and both were amazing experiences. What Firmament does well, is provide you with beautiful dynamic environments and a lightweight story that is charming and tries to tug a little at the heart strings. What this game lacks is puzzles. Myst and Riven had some nuanced puzzles that required you to gather information, contemplate it, and then at times draw out the logic on paper to decipher the solution. But reflecting back on the the 8 hours it took to complete Firmament, I can only really think of two 'puzzles' in the game. The initial Ice block platforming required some study, and the electrical switch puzzle in the acid pool (which I didn't have to solve but brute forced with little effort). Everything else just boiled down to, "Find the switches and switch them." Even the underwater maze was an exercise of "wander around till you find a switch you didn't see and flip it." That's why I'd say it's a solid 3 star. If you want to play it for the beautiful breathtaking environments, excellent sound design and lightweight charming story, then it's a solid play. But if you're looking for challenging brain teasers that leave you with an overwhelming sense of satisfaction when you finally break the code, you'll be left wanting.

Quite possibly my favorite game. It has all I want in a game: a semi open world feel, exploration, and logical puzzle solving, oh, and the story telling happens while you walk, so you don't have to sit around and wait for half an hour for a story to end before you can continue the game. There had been a glitch in the game that kept me from proceeding, but a patch fixed that.

The game has amazing graphics and an interesting story line, as well as an interesting user interface; a tool called the adjunct. The puzzles are challenging, as you would expect from the developers of the Myst series and Obduction. I have found it to be fun and challenging so far.

Such a fantastic game. Takes me back to my childhood playing Myst and Riven, so many great memories. What an effort from the Cyan team! I wish the game was longer and I kept looking for ways to deviate from the norm :) I especially loved the compound puzzles, although I would have loved more! Game time was ~8h for me (I got tripped up a few times on puzzles and had to muddle through them.) Great message in the game and when it ended I felt a pang in my chest. Keep making great games like this Cyan! Your games are SO loved and appreciated!
