The best fishing game I've ever played. The game is very well developed, especially the ships. The graphics are beautiful and the physics are very good, the nights in this game also look cozy when you are in the ship in the first camera. I see only advantages in this game, but it would also be nice to have a few more ships. The weather is good and often changes quickly, but I also miss storms in this game. I recommend this game to anyone who loves fishing and isn't afraid of their computer catching fire (mine now sounds like a airplane engines)

Fishing: North Atlantic sets out to deliver a full commercial fishing simulation, immersing the player in the cold, expansive waters off Nova Scotia. From the very beginning, the game makes clear that its focus is on authenticity and scale rather than arcade-style quick gratification. You start with modest equipment and a small vessel, gradually learning the rhythms of the sea—reading sonar, monitoring weather shifts, plotting routes, and choosing fishing methods suited to the season. The map is enormous, stretching across wide stretches of coastline dotted with ports, fisheries, and markets, giving the sense of working within a real commercial ecosystem. The game encourages a slow but steady progression, where patience, planning, and skillful boat handling matter as much as your choice of gear. A significant appeal of Fishing: North Atlantic lies in the variety of fishing techniques you’re given access to as your career expands. The game features methods such as longline fishing, deep-line, net hauling, trawling, harpooning, and crustacean trapping, each with its own mechanics and learning curve. This variety prevents the experience from feeling one-note and gives players multiple ways to refine their approach. Harpooning offers fast, hands-on action where precision matters; trawling becomes a test of route planning and catch management; lobster and crab pots require patience and systematic retrieval. The assortment of vessels is equally broad, ranging from small single-person boats to massive industrial trawlers, all modeled with appreciable detail both visually and mechanically. Upgrades, crew management, and fuel planning add layers of strategic depth beyond simply catching fish. One of the game’s strongest qualities is its atmosphere. Being out on the water can feel breathtaking when weather conditions shift from calm seas to towering waves rolling beneath your hull. Sunrises, storms, fog banks, and wind-whipped nights create a sense of presence that makes long journeys feel immersive even when they’re slow. Sound design enhances this feeling with creaking decks, engine hums, and the constant roar of the ocean. When everything works smoothly, piloting a vessel through rough waters or guiding your boat into a quiet harbor can feel deeply satisfying. These quieter moments contribute just as much to the game’s identity as the hands-on fishing sequences. Yet this commitment to realism comes with drawbacks. Many players will find the pacing deliberately slow, especially in the early hours when your boat is underpowered and your income is limited. Long stretches of travel, waiting for gear to fill, or sailing across great distances can test the patience of those expecting a more dynamic loop. The simulation layer, though ambitious, is not always consistent in execution. Certain fishing mechanics feel underdeveloped or overly repetitive, and some systems—such as crew behavior, catch sorting, and crustacean hauling—can come across as cumbersome rather than engaging. Bugs and technical issues have also been a recurring point of criticism. Problems ranging from disappearing crew members to glitched equipment or unstable textures can disrupt the otherwise immersive experience. Despite these imperfections, Fishing: North Atlantic has lasting appeal for players who take pleasure in slow-burn simulation and methodical progression. There is a real satisfaction in moving from a small boat to a towering trawler, learning the finer points of each fishing method, and optimizing routes and workflows to turn a profit. The sheer number of vessels and the variety of techniques provide meaningful replayability for those who enjoy mastering detailed systems. Even when the game’s rough edges show, its ambition and scope give it a character that resonates strongly with fans of deep simulation. Ultimately, Fishing: North Atlantic succeeds most when approached with the mindset of a true simulator rather than a fast-paced game. It offers expansive oceans to explore, realistic fishing methods to learn, and a peaceful yet demanding environment to work within. Its flaws—uneven polish, occasional bugs, and slow early-game pacing—are notable, but they don’t overshadow the sense of scale and immersion it provides. For players who enjoy realistic maritime environments, complex equipment, and the steady rhythm of life at sea, this game offers a rewarding and often absorbing experience. Rating: 7/10

A very niche game, for sure. But it is the best 'commercial fishing simulator' out there right now. Even today, I would recommend this version over the newer "Ships at Sea" title that they are working on. This game is at least 'feature complete'. There are bugs and oddities here and there but you will survive them.

This is a great game with some (minor in my opinion) bugs. My review might seem a bit negative but I'm going to try to address some of the concerns others have. The controls can be a bit clunky until you get used to them and there are some random glitches, but none of these glitches seem to be persistent if you reload. For instance, I once loaded a save and had my ship fly into the air and come crashing down and take a ton of damage, but when I reloaded the same save everything was fine. Just save periodically. Never had anything major where I had to save constantly (the game seems to autosave when you fast travel to a waypoint or port). The game also has an in-game wiki that it will expect you to consult. There are some tutorials, but these mostly ensure the best result (such as a large amount of fish or lobster or whatever at the place where you do the tutorial. When you're fishing on your own, expect to do research and gather tips. All in all it's a pretty good game, and the positives of the game make suffering the occasional bug worth it. I don't feel like the bugs will be fixed at this point as the developers are a small team and working on another game right now and this game is several years old at this point. I wouldn't call this game a simulator, as things like the ship handling and the fish sonar probably don't work the way they do in real life but you figure out how to do it in game and it works for the sake of the game. Also another tip, if you're new to the game don't start on hard mode. The economy on hard mode is brutal, and will leave you in the dust as soon as tuna season is over. You'll go from making a bunch of money to grinding if you don't know what you're doing. On easy mode the fish are more plentiful and the economy is much better, but since you're going through a learning curve it will still provide a challenge. On hard mode, there are many fish types that are not financially viable unless you have a huge multi-million dollar ship that can haul them in on a large scale quickly. That makes it a lot less fun if you want to learn the different types of fishing early on (of which there are many).
