Do you enjoy nail-biting orbital re-entry, clenching your cheeks as you choke your HOTAS like it's the difference between meeting god and making a successful cargo delivery? Do you enjoy flying through well-simulated changes in atmospheric pressure while pondering whether you remembered to stow your landing gear during surface-to-surface flights? Do you enjoy docking? with a space station that is. Do you enjoy sitting still for 20 minutes, staring at the vast beauty of space while you wait, and hope, and pray for your target to come into view, checking and re-checking a small monitor which tells you you're *probably* on track to catch up with a space station soon, as you make micro-adjustments to your AOE and roll, desperately hoping you've matched velocity and apoapsis correctly and won't have to pull yet another fuel-squandering flip-n-burn? Are you a space-nerd with dreams of operating your own surface-to-station shuttle runs and cargo deliveries? Do you dream of orbital mechanics and the feeling of transitioning in and out of atmosphere, and even escaping a planet's gravity well to explore the deepest, most frightening space routes? Have you, like I, searched through dozens if not hundreds of forums, web-searches, and advertisements, downloaded countless demos and even shelled out credits for games which others laud as "Game of the Year, the most epic space fantasy, the most realistic..." etc etc.? Do you wish there were more hard-scifi/STL games where gravity and inertia actually mattered? Are you tired of RTS/dogfighting-centric games? You can rest now. This game is for you. It is beautiful, it is challenging, it is as close to realism as you can get in a modern space game (barring some less visually-pleasing recreations of historical spaceflights). This game has finally filled that void for me. It may lack the epic scale, story, or MMO capabilities of other space flight-sims such as Elite Dangerous, Starfield, or Star Citizen, but it truly makes you feel as though you are at the helm of a fragile, yet highly-advanced spacecraft in the near future. *Disclaimer* I am not an astronaut, nor a rocket scientist, nor even an amateur in any related field. I am simply a lover of science both proven and fictional. tl;dr: Beautiful game which simulates surface-surface, orbital launch and re-entry, and zero-G docking with highly accurate-feeling atmospheric and physics simulation. HOTAS supported. This is not Elite Dangerous or Starfield, but I think it is better at what it was made for. PROS: - Beautiful visuals - Accurate simulation - "Feels" like you're piloting a real spacecraft with mass and inertia, includes some great visual/sonic effects to make G-forces and atmospheric pressure feel real - Compatible with generic HOTAS or playable with controller - Controls are decent with some remapping or tweaking to your HOTAS system - Music 10/10 for 'calm' space sim game - Decent tutorials covering the full range of surface and orbital maneuvers - Runs well on my crappy junked-together computer - Singleplayer, no server lag CONS: - Not much to the story or missions, mostly just flying from one place to another to make a basic delivery - There are rumors of other planets, but good luck getting there ;) - Tutorials could use more guidance, especially for orbital rendezvous - Planet and space stations are very simple, could use more varied terrain and economic/need-based delivery reasons to visit stations. - Not an MMO if that's what you're looking for This dev is incredible! Highly recommend. If you're reading this, O wondrous developer, I would love to see more economy implemented so we can start as a lowly surface transporter and scrape together enough credits by skimping on fuel and making expert landings to buy the better ships (or ship upgrades for more cargo space, more efficient fuel burn, autopilot systems, etc.) A bit more story/drive to do the missions would be really nice, a dynamic economy, more mission types, etc. In the future, trade routes between other planets, possibly even other star systems to explore and trade with would make this an 11/10 game. Love the game so far, glad to see it's still getting updates too <3 Ps. I would also love the option to edit the HUD/cockpit screens and place different info on them, in addition to expanding incoming data. Ie, I don't particularly need to know the length of my semi-major, but would like to see dAltitude, Phi, and others, and have the option to increase or decrease the significant figures on data or switch between km/m manually or at a user-defined magnitude, as well as receive information from stations about their Latitude, Inclination, Velocity, etc.

Just about the only game like it. "Space cargo hauling flight sim with realistic space flight & orbital mechanics" is just about the coolest itch to have scratched. Updates are so far apart this game might as well be the video game equivalent to the Fremen's plan to turn Arrakis green. I would definitely give it a try.

I am really enjoying the mechanics, which are basically the entire crux of the experience. Before I bought the game I read some reviews lamenting the absence of time skipping while in flight. I think Flight of Nova is a bit like Death Stranding, the walking is the gameplay. And the walking (flying) has been cool! Taking off from VTOL into Cruise mode is fun. Testing the limits of your skills when landing is exciting. After running out of fuel during a decent, I was still able to safely touch down on the planet. Also, I love the effects in the cockpit as you descend. Screens flicker and turn off due to the violence of re-entry. I agree with some of the other reviewers, as much as I like the game, and as much as I recommend it to other players, the price is a little steep. I think some reviewers will unfairly say there isn't enough in the game, but there is quite a bit of gameplay out of the box. There is a free mode to just practice flying and whatnot. A Rogue mode which allows players to freely explore and open missions from bases, which has a simple ranking system. Lastly, there are Map Missions and Training. The training is fun to engage with, I recommend it. There *are* a lot of boxes to check off. but I don't think it amounts to the price of entry. Not that it isn't good, the package simply doesn't feel it warrants the price. I saw players expressing concerns the game has been abandoned. I can't speak on the validity of that. I hope it still sees continued support because there are cool ideas here. I think messing with the core gameplay too much will hinder the experience. It is probably best that all of the flying is available immediately. I could list all of my ideas, but I'll refrain. Overall, I really dig this experience. There is enough here for hours of play, but you will likely be wanting more once you have passed the honeymoon phase. It's early access, and that's what happens. Big thumbs up! Edit: I forgot to mention the game works great with controller. I was a little skeptical when I bought it, but it's all there!

There isn't much in this game yet but what it does have is very specific. There isn't any other game like this. This game knows what it is and there is a very strict idea of what the game wants to be, You are in a ship in orbit around a planet. There is seemingly realistic physics. Just like in real life doing real orbital maneuvers takes a lot of time. Your ship has limited fuel. So you aren't going to be going anywhere in deep space. You'll be in orbit, doing reentry, and landings on either an asteroid or a planet. That's it. And for this game having such a strict focus, that feels like enough. There could be more to the game, honestly, but the game isn't trying to tell a story or be action packed. The game is just doing orbital mechanics. That's all it is and no other game has that with you as a pilot in the cockpit. So, if that's what you want, then this is the game. If you'd rather fly through open space with unlimited fuel then maybe try a different game cause that's not what this game is.

This game is a real gem! It scratches the itch of experiencing space flight in an immersive and realistic way. It shows the player the intricacies and the danger of real space flight and is, as such, not an arcade game. It demands skill from the player but rewards them with the feeling of achieving one of the most astounding feats of mankind. I can without doubt recommend this game even though the content is limited. In my opinion it is motivating enough to master the realistic flight and orbital mechanics, which are - no doubt - very difficult for a beginner. But if you spend one or two sessions with the tutorial, which covers all the essential situations, you should get the hang of it and become hooked. And after a while, when you get this buttery smooth landing, it feels very satisfying. This game is really more of a simulation than a game. Nevertheless, I manage the controls quite well using only a keyboard! So, don't shy away if you don't own a controller or HOTAS (even though many people will argue that those are essential). That said, it is still in early-access. It builds a strong foundation which will surely be expanded upon in terms of missions and content. Until then, in my opinion it is very worthwhile to give it a go as it is - and you buying it supports the one-man army that is this game's developer.
