Rating: 8.7/10 i would 100% play the first one, but this one is 100000000000000x better and a major improvement in every way. I would say play the first one for the story, so the second one makes more sense, but it isnt 100% necessary. In this game, the levels are more fun to play through, the enemies are a little more dynamic and involve more thought to kill, the levels themselves are also cool visually. The art style is unique and on some levels, like the mushroom level, the art really shines. This games horror was also really good. I actually got a couple good scares from it lol. it's not necessarily a "scary" game but some of the areas are eerie and adds a lot of tension. I wish there were better boss fights tho. especially the ending fight, it was REALLY underwhelming. Felt like a slightly stronger enemy, not a boss/game ending fight. Also, the enemies reaction times are CRAZY. I would turn a corner and instantly get shot before I could even see them. It feels like they have wallhacks sometimes. Also, i wish there was more impact from my guns. I wish my grenade launcher would one shot enemies considering it has a lot less ammo. The guns are cool and well made, just want them to be balanced a bit better for what the gun actually is. I used my pistol for like 60% of the game cause it would melt them, and i rarely touched my shot gun and grenade launcher cause somehow my pistol outperformed them lol. regardless, this is a HUGE improvement from the first game (which is also pretty good). I hope the boss battles get better and the final boss battle isnt underwhelming for a possible 3rd game. Recommendation: finishers? It would be cool to get finishers alongside perks for it. Health was a pretty big issue for me in this game and I surprisingly died a lot. So a finisher that could provide health or brief immunity to help pace the game more would be helpful. This is definitely one of the best indie games i've played and Im happy i bought it. I know it's a spin off doom cause of the level style and key aspect, but it does still feel like its own game.

There Is a New Sheriff in Town The original Forgive Me Father was such a gem that it deepened my appreciation for boomer shooters. Combining Lovecraftian/cosmic horror with the boomer shooter genre was already a winning formula in my book and the first game remains one of my favorite shooters to date. It was the first game I had played from Byte Barrel, and I wasn't sure if it was a one-time success or if I had discovered a new developer to watch. The sequel solidifies that Byte Barrel is a studio I’ll be keeping a close eye on. Forgive Me Father 2 improves on the original in nearly every way. It's faster, more challenging, features more complex design elements, and is more polished—except for optimization. The difficulty is finely tuned, offering just the right amount of challenge to keep you in a flow state. The arsenal of weapons and skills is significantly better, keeping the core gameplay fresh and encouraging experimentation with different combos. There are also many Easter eggs and references to other games, which I really enjoyed. It's well worth taking the time to explore certain areas, even though the game remains a frantic boomer shooter at heart. I was in awe during the last hour or so of the game; the cosmic horror was executed far better this time. I have only two gripes with the game: First, I thought the use of darkness was better in the first game and could have been improved here. Second, the optimization needs serious work. My CPU and GPU usage barely exceeds 50%, yet I experience severe frame drops. A game like this should run as smoothly as possible, and inconsistent frame times are probably the game's biggest flaw. It’s not unplayable, but it definitely needs improvement. Byte Barrel's next title, Trust , is set to be an immersive sim, and something tells me it will be special—I’ll be there to witness it. I trust they won't miss.

Improves on everything that made the first game great, delivering better combat, INSANELY better visuals, and an even more intense experience. It keeps the same Lovecraftian horror-meets-old-school-FPS feel but refines every aspect to make the gameplay smoother and more satisfying. The weapons feel amazing to use. Every shot lands with weight, and the feedback is excellent. The new weapons add even more variety to combat. The game encourages constant movement and smart weapon switching, making every fight dynamic and exciting. The comic book aesthetic is back, but now with more detail, improved lighting, and better environmental design. The mix of dark Lovecraftian horror and bright neon colors makes for a striking look. Each level feels distinct, with creepy, immersive environments that make exploration engaging. The enemy roster has expanded. The AI is more aggressive, which keeps the combat fast and intense. The game keeps the momentum going from start to finish. There’s little downtime, and every level feels packed with action. The pacing is well-balanced, making sure there’s never a dull moment. The Madness mechanic is more refined and impactful. As you gain Madness, you unlock powerful abilities that change how you approach combat. It rewards aggressive play. Forgive Me Father 2 takes the foundation of the first game and improves on every aspect. The gunplay is better, the enemies are more fun to fight, and the visuals are sharper. It’s a fantastic sequel.

Rating: ★★★★★ - Amazing Time Played: 9.1 hours Difficulty: Normal Gameplay: • Fast-paced Boomer Shooter with an emphasis on creative Lovecraftian weaponry and frantic combat similar to Doom Eternal. • Fluid controls and satisfying gunplay; most weapons feel impactful and fun to use. • The insanity meter mechanic adds a unique layer to combat, though I personally preferred the passive abilities. • Varied level design balances chaotic encounters (some claustrophobic) with moments to catch your breath. Story/Dialogue: • The Lovecraftian-inspired narrative is engaging but doesn’t take itself too seriously, fitting the pulpy horror aesthetic. • Internal Monologue that complements the action without slowing it down, though the story isn't the main focus and the dialogue can come across as cheesy. • The overall tone of the game blends dark humour with eerie vibes, keeping it entertaining. Graphics/Music: • Striking hand-drawn comic book art style that stands out and adds to the surreal, horror-laden atmosphere. • Environments are dripping with personality, though some textures can feel overused. • The soundtrack is adrenaline-pumping, blending heavy metal with eerie undertones. So good that I've gone out of my way to purchase. • Sound effects, especially weapon sounds, are punchy and add to the immersion. Before you Play: • This game is just as good as the first one. Feel free to get both. • Don’t be afraid to experiment with different weapons; There are some weapon variants that are better than others to take down each enemy. • Look out for secret\hidden areas; they often have health, ammo, or tokens (used for buying weapon variants). • Keep moving during combat; staying still is a quick way to get overwhelmed.

They took a great first game and made it even better. Great art style, even more defined and polished then the original. Also better maps and enemy placement and encounters. It still has some boomer shooter aspects but plays more like a fast pace FPS and not just one large room after another with a bunch of monsters in each one. Level design is also greatly improved. Overall I love this game and can't wait for 1.0 next month.
