growing up, i wanted to be a paleontologist so i'm thankful for fossil corner as it reflects on a part of the job that isn't the main focus when you imagine the job description (i mean, you would always link it to digging up fossils in a hot sandy desert) which is building a family tree from a range of fossils consisting of shells, crinoids (mushrooms) and trilobites (insects). one of the cons from this game is because of its RNG, i accumulated way too much money to not spend on anything when i've maxed out the space and purchased the genome app plus fossil combiner. it would've saved some time and effort if we could use the money to complete some quite impossible requests on the fossil finder app (i'm looking at feathered and weeny arms crinoid...). each refresh quest wait time is 10 minutes and within that time range, i accumulated too many 1 and 2 star fossils which clogs up space. also, since the stash area is only accessible through the desktop, i'm unable to remember a fossil i need located there when i want to complete a quest. the more you play, the quests seem to focus on mineralized fossils which are rare and the requests become too specific like wanting an opalized ribbed shell but you own an agatized ribbed shell instead >︿< all in all, i recommend it to players who share the same paleontologist dream, who loves collecting and displaying fossils or those who just wants luck based games to fill up their time O(∩_∩)O

cute lil game from a very cool dev. i found the dev via their previous game, plant daddy. which is like this one but with plants (also has less content). i liked this game, it scratched the itch in my brain telling me to collect fun looking rocks and shells. i would probably buy it again to support the developer, and i think it is well worth the money if you are neurodivergent like me. only downside it is a bit of a gameplay cycle, but you do get new dopamine out of it when you find a shiny new object. overall: ★★★★☆

fossil-based deductive puzzler. buy lootboxes, organize first by color for clarity (represents their age), then into a family tree, rinse and repeat. oldest goes on the bottom or left and each specimen has a single trait change between generations. e.g. one child might be bigger than the parent, another smaller. there's a handbook with reminders of the basics and hints if you need them . only randomly generated puzzles are available. always a bummer, endless sameness, but leaving a puzzle saves progress . once solved, a single item from the family can be added to your collection. the more fossils you have, the more money for the next puzzle, can be spent on necessary workspace, tools and cosmetic crap. you can mess around with objects in the house too, close the window, etc. fossils can also be sold for a quick money injection and you'll get requests for photos of random stuff. an 'instant refresh for cash' option would've been necessary to avoid waiting 10 fucking minutes to replace a single task with another. instant and almost silent text display, good enough. the game is 99% mousable (can't take pictures, no button to click, only for scrapbooks) with a few non-rebindable hotkeys that can only be checked after starting a new game. space takes a pic, z zooms out, arrows change workspace if there's more than one. items can only be dragged, no click to pick up, click to place, and only click-click works to set up connections. right click to zoom out and double-click to open boxes would've been necessary , less mouse movement to click on buttons on the side. the computer turning off after not using it for a short time is annoying as fuck as well, just like accidentally breaking already made and confirmed full connections with a misclick. it's done, lock it in. settings, available anytime, are separate volumes, windowed mode, resolutions (only low/medium/high, not how it should be), a particle effects toggle and colorblind mode, which can be handy regardless, as some 'colorful' combinations are tricky to place. and while you can change the character's name anytime, it's not possible to enter a custom one, just keep rerolling randoms, even though shells and stuff can be given any name and you can add any text to the scrapbooks. control issues and my dislike of random-only puzzles aside, it's okay for a couple hours if bought on sale . the dev has been aware of all the shortcomings for years but never did anything, so the 2.50 I paid is a lot more reasonable than the $10 full price. you'll do about 40-50 puzzles to finish the 'story', but they're really samey and unsatisfying, like most random puzzles , so even this relatively small amount felt a bit much. and if you want to unlock everything, it's gonna be a hell of a grind, what with rng not giving fossil traits necessary to progress . gotta keep opening crates until something useful pops up but can't have more than one of the same crate on you, can't discard a useless puzzle either . there's a fossil generator and a combining machine but it's still just more rng and money down the drain. or you can use other people's fossil codes, but unsurprisingly there's no huge playerbase behind the game.

Very cute & cosy fossil collecting game, you get to organise them & decorate your room. No timescales or rushing, just take your time & collect how you want to. I feel like navigating through the menus could be a bit easier, feels a little bit excessive with how many clicks you have to do to get through things, but I think there are shortcuts/keys for a bunch of things that I just didn't look into. I think i'd like things like the missions to be on an overlay rather than having to check back each time.
