Let me first say that this is one of my most beloved gaming franchises and I have been fan since the first game came out. So I finally tried Gears 5 to see if it's really "that bad" and I must say - it really is not. Yes, the main characters (Del and Kait) aren't the most interesting and I wish we could play as our old beloved characters from previous games, but that's about the only downside for me. I was pleasantly surprised that in the story there are plenty of throwbacks to older games, mainly Gears of War 2 and 3, that it extends the lore and answers some crucial questions like Locust origins for example. I also really like the semi-open world in Act 2 and 3 that actually allows you to explore and discover some cool locations/sidequests. Action itself is just excellent, just like in previous GoW games. Multiplayer part is a lots of fun, especially Horde and Escape mode since I prefer PvE. You can upgrade your class and unlock new things which is always welcome. Spend about 60h on these modes alone before I jumped into the campaign. Definitely a good game and a very decent sequel in my book. Solid ground for Gears of War 6. I recommend.
The game is just playable for graphics and adventure. It was boring at first for its repetitive gameplay from Gears 4 like juvies,swarms attacks, and there wasn't a single storyline I could follow properly. But thankfully, the good graphics and adventure in icy worlds and a Martian desert environment make the game playable. my rating 2.75/5
Honestly not sure why I held off playing this one for so long. Thoroughly enjoyed the game (have only played single player at the time of reviewing) and felt like Insane was a very fair challenge. The open world sections worked a lot better than expected. Will probably spend some more time with this one wrapping up some of the collectibles and other campaign related achievements before E-Day releases.
Having owned Gears 5 on XBOX1S in 2019, and repurchasing it on Steam a few years ago, this review is long overdue. Although this is my least favorite Gears campaign, the multiplayer more than makes up for it. Finally I can play Gears with buttery smooth high framerates, customized graphics settings, and with friends across all platforms. After not playing for a few years, It's great to see the player base is still going strong, and that a game of TDM, Execution, or KOTH can be found in seconds. Ranked game can take a while to match up though, particularly late at night, and certain crossplay aspects can be a bit glitchy, but this is a solid Gears of War, and will hold me over till E-Day come out. If you're a fan of Gears multiplayer, this is better than reloaded IMHO.
