It's a good game and definitely worth picking up. Of course, the noise around it can spoil your impressions, because this has become a classic situation for every more or less major AAA game in recent years: haters latch onto one obvious flaw, while fans overpraise it. The truth is somewhere in the middle. I recommend ignoring all the noise and just trying the game yourself. I kind of recommend the campaign. The main problem with the story campaign is the weak writing. The characters are just poorly worked into the story. Marcus and Dominic don't really do anything meaningful and mostly just go with the flow. I'm absolutely exhausted by the “Netflix-ification” of modern AAA game writing, where character development completely stalls while the heroes do nothing but endlessly repeat the same emotional baggage. The second problem is that the campaign structure is uneven. The classic trilogy was linear and exciting, with the scale always growing and only occasional breaks to enjoy the atmosphere. But the balance was always good, and it never got boring. Here, though, that balance is gone. Those slow parts are stretched out way too long, mostly because of semi-open areas you can explore. You could feel the same thing in Gears 5. You finish an act on a high note, then you're thrown into a huge open area full of collectibles. Your first thought is, "For ♥♥♥♥'s sake, why are you doing this to me?" Because basically the whole game is built on a loop: “20 minutes of epic scripted action -> 2-4 hours of wandering around an open location”. Overall it's not a big problem, but from about the middle of the game, everything just becomes pretty predictable and a bit routine. The universe will probably collapse into a singularity when at least one developer finally figures out how to break this formula and surprise the player. But no, sadly, not this time. Still, the game has its moments. When it stops trying to develop the personal drama of the main characters and becomes a first-class action game, or when it shows the scale of the invasion and what's happening to the city of Kalona, you instantly fall in love with it. The visuals are amazing, one of the best games with ray tracing. And it runs well too. Definitely the most beautiful game this year. The city is also impressive, everything is made with a lot of love for the Gears universe and full of tiny details. I definitely HIGHLY recommend Horde Siege. This is where the gameplay really shows its full potential. At its core, it's a PvE extraction shooter. You could describe it as “controlled chaos”. You and your squad start a mission in one large location. You need to complete all the main objectives and successfully extract to get resources needed for upgrades. The cool part is that the location exists independently of the player lobby. At any moment, old squads can extract and new ones can appear. So it's not uncommon for your squad to load into the map while a fight with one of the world bosses is already in full swing, and you're the one who can turn the tide (or not, depends on your luck, but you're guaranteed to have a good time either way). Honestly, it's hard to describe the experience you can get here. You really have to try it yourself, and you definitely won't regret it. Because every run is guaranteed to be unique and fun.

[6.5/10] A Great Shooter, A Disappointing Prequel Campaign Only Review Gears of War: E-Day is a game of contradictions. On the one hand, it’s the strongest the series has felt mechanically since Gears of War 3. The Coalition has delivered fantastic combat, smarter AI, progression systems that feel fun and rewarding, and sound design that crafts the franchise’s most intense battles. On the other hand, an uneven story, technical issues, and a campaign structure that experiments too much hold the overall experience back. As a prequel centered on Marcus and Dom, there are moments the narrative should have spent more time exploring what made the duo so memorable, though the game often chooses to broaden its focus by introducing new characters and perspectives. During my time with E-Day, I had to play the campaign solo because finding enough players for a full co-op campaign squad was difficult, which is disappointing for a franchise whose identity has always been associated with cooperative play. While the game remains enjoyable with AI teammates, the best moments from Gears have traditionally come with friends and family in couch co-op, like my own upbringing, but that experience is hard to replicate when the player base isn’t there. Ultimately, Gears of War: E-Day succeeds as a great shooter but falls short of being the definitive Marcus and Dom prequel many fans, including myself, hoped for. It’s an enjoyable return to the planet of Sera, packed with spectacular combat and impressive production values. Yet, it’s also a reminder that gameplay excellence alone can’t carry a story-driven franchise. E-Day delivers some of the strongest combat, presentation, and moment-to-moment gameplay the series has ever seen. Yet despite nailing the war, it often struggles with the very thing that should have made this prequel special, the story behind it. For now, it stands as a game I hoped would be great but ultimately left me wanting more. I'm hoping it's enough to let the franchise survive. It's decent. Not a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination but I also don't think it's nearly the dumpster fire that a lot of other reviews make it out to be. Definitely still a lot better than gears 4 and 5 but not quite on par with the original 3 gears games.

Loved the gameplay, campaign is super meaty at around 16-17 hours long (played on Insane and collected a majority of perks for armor and weapons) I strongly recommend it ON SALE tho... Story wise its a total mixed bag, I got to see Dom and Marcus connect like it was advertised but felt it kept getting interrupted by Mags Carter. It genuinely would have been a better experience as a classic 2 player co-op experience because she demands far too much of the screen time by having every character trait push the story forward. She's a decorated war veteran, an imulsion expert, all while being the squad's therapist. Added onto the fact her AI is tuned to be far more aggressive and durable to the point where it looks like she is doing everything. It comes off as if she is the main character when its suppose to be Dom and Marcus. Horde Seige is what sold me on this game, super fun, very replayable, and hope that they continue to update and add more to it (Kinda doubt it cause there is no way this game is making its $400 million back xP)

Gameplay is solid, enjoying it a lot so far Biggest gripe is one character in the story is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying as ♥♥♥♥ and gets treated like the main character for some reason
