As someone who is British and really into history and aircraft this is a game I never realised I wanted to play, though I haven't put too much time into the game yet I can say that it's a really cool idea and can't wait to see it evolve with more features and factions. I must give a fair warning to some people who may play this expecting a finished game however as it's still lacking some of the features you would expect of a colony sim style game like skills etc but the developers have a roadmap accessible on the steam page and main menu detailing their vision for the game so if playing early access isn't your thing then I wouldn't advise buying otherwise great game.

Review: liked the game and concept from start but soon encountered principal flaws. I suggest to buy it at discount in a hope that developers will bring more content but what is more important IMO - re-design (if it is possible) part of the core mehcanics/gameplay process. What I didn't like in the game is unrealistic concept of Air base crew having to gather resources for its base, like they are settlers on uninhabited island/continent. Weekly truck supplies from HQ don't help to remove this feeling of mismatch of the game's premis with its gameplay. Suggestions During WWII air bases, their crew were on a frontline - tip of a spear especially during Battle for Britain, I don't think any of ground or air crew members had to grind resources to survive another day. Pilots were exhausted from routine or by alarm flights and air battles, greaving for lost comrades. And were not able to wake up next morning and start huffing metal, sand or making bricks. The numbe of flights for each pilot per day, number of KIAs put enourmos pressure on Air Force. And you suggest that they should wake up and take care of sand and bricks? It puts the game into very arcade and casual representation of WWII. If it is not too late just shift gameplay from grinding resources to more strageic or tactical building/upgrading of airbase from plentiful of resources broughts by command of Royal Air Force from various suppliers. So, base building part wont be erased, build everything from scratch with much bigger team of ground crew or maybe temporary construction team/batallions that can also be called upon upgrade of victory points accumulated. Part A: Maintenance and Services The role of ground crew will thus shift to Maintenance and Service: - meeting of airplains on cars with medics, firebrigades and/or refuling/repair teams - repair of damaged airplanes (spair part only general "spair parts" but engines, fuel tanks, etc) - maintenance of damaged building, construction of new ones, etc. There should be military garrizon on the field taking care of AA defense and intruders, cammo etc. Part B: Missions and History Developers missed very huge potential to link missions to real historical events like Battle for Britain, hunt for Bismark and Tirpitz, patrols over Atlantic in search for submarines, Mocsito bombing of Gestapo HQs in France/Holland, hight altitude interception of german scout planes (btw done by son of Russian immigrant of aristocratic origin) etc. All this also opens HUGE potential for very interesting gameplay (i hope in a framework of existing engine and game concept). Examples: - new naval airplanes - new buildings and supply from headquarter like: ammo depot, new services like putting special kind of bombs on airplanes, Tollboy bombs, damb buster bombs and very unique special missions related, table of achivements for the crews, list of KIA, MIA, personal stories for each pilot - arrival and impact of foreign pilots from Poland / Czheck republic and their huge impact on Battle for Britain. - new equipment/missions for airplanes like radars, magnitometer (late war in Atlantic) - finally arrival of 8th Air Army from USA with b-17 and more drama and work for ground crew What the heck, there is a mission for ground support in Sept 1940 when ground battles over Europe were over? Norway? for airplanes with very limited range? So, I have more to say/suggest about the game but the core things are presented above. Sorry for possible mistakes and broken english.

Well I have played this game every day since I bought it and I love it, very addictive. Its Early Access but at 60 hours, i have played full releases yet so dont let that put you off, its worth buying. Devs are active and improving and expanding. Building is easy but no so easy you can dont have challenges, mostly gathering the resources and having enough workers, then you run out of resources and rely on HQ to deliver once a week but its well balanced so you cannot just spam a top tier airfield. I find myself balancing upgrading the base to brick whilst needing loads of metal for upgrading the hangars (note upgrading hangars just means less degradation from the elements, doesnt stop you getting aircraft, you just need more maintenance parts and people, so a good balance). 60 hours and a few restarts to improve my location and I think it starts in 1939 or 1940 and I am only in April 1941 upgrading the base to take on heavy bombers, assume the longer the war lasts the bigger and more modern aircraft you need to win missions. The point there being you need to meet mission quota's to get more supplies and new aircraft and personnel so again, IMO a nice driver to upgrade, re-design and expand and to build on this....the Map is not infinate, there are only so many places you place a top tier runway, so if in early game you decided to build your HQ where the key locations are, you will need to move it. If this sounds frustrating, it isn't, you will build such a mess the first few times you will start again anyway and as one of the discussions pointed out, you can ghost build to find where the longest and widest area is, stop building before it starts and build your base away from it, but if you like building and improving, a restart is always fun. So 100% recommend to players who like building, resources and upgrading. It is not a war simulator, the war is the design of the aircraft and base, the battles are not seen (apart from you own purchased and manned AA guns in defence), its about having the right aircraft in numbers and capability to meet the missions, think bombers, highly manouverable fighters, spotters and so on...note you also need beds (or cots if you are our american brothers) so you have to expand your base with more beds, food and fuel and guess what, each part of production also needs ground crew who need beds, food and resources. Great game and love the WW2 genre, its both peaceful to play, as in you are not up against a hard timer, but drives you to expand because the war goes on and surely at some point if you have not expanded, you are not going to defeat the enemy and gain points! Enjoy.

So far, the game has been brilliant, with significantly more depth than the Demo versions. Loving it, loving it, loving it. I don't think that sleep is an option tonight. If I asked a company to design a game specifically for me, then Ground of Aces would be it. Born in 1974, I was brought up on the Biggles books and all of the WW2 comics like Victor etc. And I now have a love of WW2 history. Thank you to all of the team for such a brilliant game. So far 10/10
