Glitches, translation errors, bad balance choices, and lack of QOL mean most people probably would avoid... Though I genuinely think these issues are overall minor despite the long list. Just minor inconveniences. over 4 months ago, the dev explained they disbanded the group due to money and etc. It's rough out there for independent indie game studios. So I wouldn't buy it expecting all the fixes in the world anytime soon. Especially not when it's down to just 1 person who may or may not have time/resources to commit to this. But if you're like me, and don't mind games with a bunch of minor inconveniences. Then it's flippin awesome. I genuinely am addicted and it's sooo cool. It's like a mashup of oxygen not included + terraria + a tower defense game. There's genuine care and effort put behind the game and if you can get over the issues, glitches and translation problems. It's really neat. At least I got it on sale, so I ain't complaining. - It's hard to understand the enemy ai... sometimes they decide to randomly nibble parts of your tunnels or break blocks that aren't even in the way... They broke the blocks beneath my turret for some reason. It's really hard to predict because it's not something like "gnomes" where they only path like that if there's no other solution. - It could use more customization especially with the UI. I feel like I can barely see what I'm selecting on my hotbar or can't read certain things. Granted I have a small screen on my laptop. - Translation seems inconsistent but it honestly barely affects gameplay. Though the english for a few of the descriptions is either kind of messed up or completely wrong. So it's sometimes hard to tell what some stuff does. - Distributing resources doesn't exactly work perfectly. You have to periodically check the production and manually distribute some of the ingredients. It seems to prioritize whichever was established first and doesn't have any system to bring ingredients to a new one each time. - There's actually a lot of good options in the production menus to get around a few of the issues... But it's annoying to have to manually change them through a bunch of different windows. It'd help a TON if there were presets or something. - Kitchen's production is so horribly abysmal, it's genuinely not worth making them. You lose about 1 produce per product if you make it in the pot. But with how slow the kitchen works and how fast the land plots produce. It genuinely just ends up being a waste of food and water to put anybody in the kitchen. I started making things manually and I went from like 3,000 food with like 8 kitchens... to 14,000 food with 2 kitchens (1 food, 1 water) and manual crafting, I believe it was made with the production of bullets in mind. But bullets are used a lot less frequently and they are more efficient per kill. - Crafting recipes sell for very inconsistent amounts. Certain things cost barely any resources (like the wood farm) but sell for an absurd amount. And other things require a ton of resources and sell for basically nothing. Like some weapons. You can sell a hundred weapons but it's better to just sell leaf ladders or something. - Weapon values are not updated with the reforges or your personal buffs/tree levels. Basically it's pretty hard to tell what weapons actually do what damage without a lot of testing each one. Not to mention, a lot of weapons just show incorrect values even at base. - I have one soldier that just won't stop eating and drinking constantly and he won't stay on the damn platform... He just keeps walking to it and back. In general the soldiers just seem to be weird sometimes and they always leave for some reason during battle. Like shouldn't they be eating and drinking at other times. At the very least you should be able to make shifts or something?

The game's a diamond in the rough. It's a fun mix of city management and tower defense. It feels like something I'd play in Newsgrounds' heyday, and that's a compliment. However, it also suffers from some optimization issues, an English translation with numerous mistakes, and the game just kind of finishes with no real fanfare but lets you keep playing as if that wasn't supposed to be the end. All that said, I enjoyed it enough to get all the achievements and the multiplayer is a good time with occasional lag spikes (usually at the start of each day, probably to autosave). If the currently 1-man team decides to release an update that makes the game run smoother, this'll likely go from a wavering thumbs up to a confident one.

Looks and plays like one of those old school flash games. The progression feels great and carving out the world is satisfying. This game is addicting--there's always something to do. Recommend playing with a friend :)

This game is an unpolished gem and well worth any price 20$ or under. I want to preface this by saying that development for this game has nearly ceased. It appears to be a passion project undertaken by a small team of friends and never found financial success. Do not expect massive updates or amazing QOL additions that come down the pipeline. That being said.. it is a wonderful addition to the genre. It captures that feel and scratches many of the same itches that ONI, AutoForge and Ratopia. The full environment is not harvestable as in some of those games, but this title makes up for that with some innovative approaches to management and automation. You get a population to conrol, with resoures that are primarily produce from spawn points on the map. The PVE element is persistant and keeps you aware of defenses while expanding / exploring. There is character customization and advancement with traits that allow you to focus a little closer on your style of play. This is combined with a toon chosen at the beginning with slightly different passive abilities. The tech tree expands to include a surprising degree of depth for a game that ran out of funds. The fresh take on lore and the simplistic art style resonant with nostalgic chord that so often fails to work these days. Guardians of Sanctree really is a hidden gem within the genre. The person who first burned with the passion to bring this to life is currently the only developer, and are pursuing this in their free time. Keep that in mind as expectations arise. They are active in the community and continue to pursue this while working a normal 9-5. I want to say this game, represents what the ideals of Early Access were intended to support. The level of honesty and open communication this developer brings is truly refreshing and deserves your support. I think it is importatnt that the gamers of steam recognize the shifting paradigm and consistent loss of passion and UX coming out of the industry today. I am so happy i ran across this and am able to help a true indie developer bring their dream to life. Cheers.
