I introduced this game to my friends as 'Chinese Stardew Valley but with a twist'. On a big picture it looks like, and seems like everything is stardew copied but if you look at the 7 skills individually (farming, forestey, mining, cooking, etc) , the mechanics are somewhat different. A good example is mining. There are 5 different mine gates/cave, and you need to dig for a yellow stone to open the next door, and you fight animals/beasts, tiptoe behind cute pets to tame them, etc. So it pulls away from the traditional 'find the ladder and go down' idea. There are also cooking mini games, foraging mini games, etc to play. Also like what everything mentioned here, there is no real currency, you buy things via barter trading and its up to you to figure out the balance. The developer made sure everything is asian/chinese relevant. You can chop bamboos, forage black fungus mushroom (asian stuff we put in our soup), the NPC names are all in chinese. The entire visual is colourful in olden chinese setting. I appreciate little things like the stone table to play chess because, that is really where old chinese uncles play chess outside hahaha. This game can be as cozy as you want because, there are options to turn off certain mechanics if you want to! I always get stressed about mining and die, in this game you can turn on invincibility mode so you cannot die!!! Tired of playing the mini games? Turn if off! Think that the day passes too fast? Lengthen the duration of a day! For such a cheap price it is definitely worth getting it and see how this game grows. I can see a lot of potential in this game. Give it a go! Oh btw, do you need to know chinese to play this game? Absolutely not lol don't worry about it.

The war between the local grass encroaching upon my field and myself is a never ending battle. Each day, like a fool, I put away my sickle. Knowing full well I'll need it again the next morning. The berries, like sheepish olive branches of peace, will not disuade me nor my reaping blade. Oh, uhh, game is fun, soft and dream-like, its good to play before bed really. Could use a manual save feature, it is coming soon it says but yea know, side notes and all.

I genuinely don't understand most of the negative reviews especially near time of release. I've played my share of harvest moon/story of seasons/stardew adjacent games - and though occasionally lacking a bit of direction via quests, this game is so full of charm visually, with the characters, and all the systems. You can turn off the minigames if you don't like them, and frankly (normally as a mini game disliker) they are simple and easy, and don't over stay their welcome. You can feel the love and affection poured into this; while some of the systems could use maybe slightly more meat to them, there's so many and none of them feel obnoxious. If I had any notes, at most, it'd be being able to track townsfolk and an easier to find path to the tutorials. But frankly most things are pretty darn intuitive! I'm really enjoying the game play loop, and I can't wait to dig more into character storylines and discover more. I'm deeply excited to see what the devs add and where they go from here!

I love this game so much. I only have 8 hours on this game so far; fun and amazing. Ive been having Chinese Drama / Chinese Game fever. I needed something to play while waiting for Road to Empress II and Fields of Mistria updates. This game hits the mark! Pros +Tame animals in caves. I tamed a pig and it gave me +DEF when attacking cave monsters. There are also monkeys, dogs, cats, etc. you can tame too. +Can tame & then mount on animals across the map. +You get to do puzzles when learning a new recipe / construction blueprint for furnitures. +Lots of NPCs to befriend + romance (looking at my guuuurl who can fight) + each NPCs have different personalities. +Basic farming, seeding, foraging, fighting, etc. skill level ups + power ups you can choose. +You can cut down bamboo trees too. +Map tells you where each NPC is located at --- any time you open it up. +Hairstyles are super cute! +There is no money system, but there are VOUCHERS which you can receive by donating to the village. +You can bargain if you dont have enough vouchers to buy stuff. +You can do quests, or what the game calls it, "events" by seeking a specific NPC, asking her for "rumors". I ask her once everyday...I guess this takes me to the rest of the review.... Things to improve on: -The events seem randomized or poorly paced. I am not that far into the game and one of the events was to give a copper armor to someone, at a limited time to complete. There wasnt any instructions on how to create copper armor and I was only day 4 into the game. I received an event during Spring to give a lomquat to one of the villagers at a limited time to complete, BUT lomquats only grow during Autumn so how can I.. -I cut down a bamboo tree and the broken parts landed on the edge of the ground by the waterfall. Your character cant walk on that area. The broken parts didnt fly towards me. Ahh, oh well. Would be nice to add a feature where the parts can still fly to you even if they fell in areas you cant step onto. -Wish we can customize our lips, or add color to it. Overall, I love this game regardless. The devs put a lot of hard work into it! Thankyou for the devs hard work in creating the game and incorporating the Chinese culture + Chinese culture days into the game. I love it! Looking forward to more additions and fixes. Very fun and cozy game despite the improvements needed. Update 1/22/2026: Devs listened and fixed the pacing of "rumors". Thanks!

Halcyon: “denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful.” This game perfectly captures the cozy and nostalgic halcyon aesthetic! ~.~ First impressions! I almost passed on this since the dev’s announcement for the game included a list of regrets that they hadn’t (yet) been able to include in the game, which bummed me out! But … then I saw the positive reviews rolling in, and I started to wonder: Is this dev just being a little hard on themselves? The answer: YES!!! So far, I’ve barely scratched the surface of what appears to be TONS of things to do, after flipping through the various compendiums we have to fill. I did make a point, however, to traverse the world (with a beautifully drawn map that’s marked with NPC live locations and points of interest) in order to meet all of the NPCs before weighing in on this game. I smiled, giggled and sometimes even gasped numerous times! Everyone seems so unique. Some sweet, some wise, some rude! I haven’t yet befriended any animals, but that’s probably the mechanic about which I’m most excited, as it appears there is a significant creature-collecting component in this game. (((EDIT: I’ve befriended my first animal companions! The compendium appears to show over 60 animals to befriend. I’ve also tried out the combat mechanic, in the mines, and I like that it’s a simple hack-and-slash. I didn’t mention all of the mini-games in my review; you can disable if you don’t enjoy them, but I really love them. Tangrams puzzles, simple hidden object boards, etc. Makes the game really stand apart, allowing you to opt-in to earning blueprints, recipes, flowers, and other things. There’s also an in-game calendar with plenty of events! And I’d like to encourage everyone who plays to stop and marvel at the little artworks and potted plants lining each building interior. The amount of detail is just stunning!))) The art style and cultural influences are simply breathtaking. I’ve stopped and just marveled at the rural Chinese countryside beauty around me. The fireflies at night may be my favorite touch. The pixel art is intricate, reminiscent of Children of Morta, for me, the game that made me fall in love with hi-bit pixel art. The gentle music and also the nature sound effects all complement the mood. The character customization was surprisingly robust. You can select your skin tone, eye shape and color, and hair and brow style. That may not sound like much, but there are a lot of options within each of those categories, especially hair. I’m playing on a Lenovo Legion Go with SteamOS (controls almost identically to my OLED Deck) and it’s flawless. Full controller support. Most controls are noted on-screen, and what isn’t is clearly explained in the Settings. It’s pretty intuitive, I think. There are some general quirks, such as needing to use the axe to remove furniture, or the glove to remove small decorations. The dev has acknowledged these design choices, presumably due to the bit of confusion they’ve caused. (Note also that a manual save option is also currently unavailable, but you can save by going to bed and ending your day, for now). I’m not having any trouble navigating, farming, decorating, or interacting with anything//anyone at all. In short: I’m pretty blown away. I honestly think the game is underpriced, and would pay double. I’ll be happy to purchase any future DLC, should the devs want or need to go that route in order to support continued development. Please go buy Halcyon Days at Taoyuan! This game deserves all of the love and support of the cozy community. <3
