Absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ phenomenal. I'm a huge horror fan, and I'm a little embarrassed to admit that twice during this, I actually cried out of fear. Now I'm absolutely hooked. Same as Umineko (Which I read first!), if you can, I'd definitely recommend reading with a friend! Having someone to go back and forth with on notes and theories is a fun way to solve these stories. Very slow start, same as Umineko, but if you push through it, it gets GOOD. And at some point, you may realize that even the slow, "slice-of-life" type bits have meaning...

literal masterpiece for FREE?? i mean u gotta pay for the other games but its so worth it i've been a higurashi fan since 2017, its probably my favorite media of all time along with yellowjackets i love u rena in seriousness, i think this is the best in the series idk if that is controversial going in blind, the fear and paranoria are portrayed so amazingly, even knowing the story it still gave me chills perfection of horror media <3

Higurashi as a whole is one of the best horror works ever. This is just the first chapter, but it's a very good first chapter and don't let the lenght scare you off. It's good reading

Cannot express enough how much this game means to me. Definitely play with the 07th-Mod, which will give you the best playing experience with better art, voice acting, and CG scenes.

Amazingly written novel. I've just played Higurashi for the second time knowing the whole story and its events already but the narration itself still gives me the feeling of disturbance and anxiety. Don't bother with the anime adaptation. While the game is primarily a mystery combined with psychological horror elements, the anime is more focused on violence which might repel someone who is curious about Higurashi.
