The beginning of the "Answers" arc is pretty good. Not the best one, for sure, but I can't say it was bad, either. One of my biggest gripes here is that Shion , as presented here, is a difficult protagonist to find any kind of compassion for, I struggled with that for a while. Some of the sister-switching logic also got too complicated near the end. Nevertheless, all of those are minor at best, and it is still a true Higurashi chapter - sometimes nice, sometimes depressing, but still amazing as the complete experience. However, maybe five different ending fake-outs were a bit too much after all... 8/10

This chapter's name is “Meakashi”, which means the “eye opening”, however contrary to that name, not only has it left me with open eyes, but with my jaw dropped to the floor as well.

Meakashi was a very compelling way to open the answer arcs. It didn't *quite* manage to land a spot next to my favorite arcs so far (1 and 3), but it was very close. This arc, premeditated or not, was a giant retcon of Watanagashi. Most of my complaints with Watanagashi were written away here, but it felt a little too convenient at times. I couldn't help but actively wonder how they'd explain all the events that we witnessed from Keiichi's perspective. Even so, it was easily worth it to redeem Mion's character. It'd be extremely hard to appreciate the bonds of the main cast while still believing in the Mion that Watanagashi depicted. Shion was a fantastic protagonist. I loved seeing her unbreakable will and tender feelings. Her grief had me wishing for a happy ending that I knew couldn't be reached.

Life changing. It's crazy to me how chapter 5's are the best in both Higurashi and Umineko. These are the times when Ryukishi had that dawg in him. Also Festivals is one of the best BGM of all time and despite this game having one of the best main casts in history, Shmion is definitely outstanding.
