Unfinished masterspieace. This game had so much potential but seems abandoned. Story sucks but exploring and gameplay even if half done is great.

Horse Tales: Emerald Valley Ranch, developed by Aesir Interactive and published by Microids, presents itself as a warm, pastoral adventure centered on horseback exploration, ranch restoration, and gentle worldbuilding. It begins with a familiar but inviting premise: you arrive on a once-prosperous ranch expecting a peaceful retreat, only to find the property in disrepair and the nearby Emerald Valley overrun with neglect, rival landowners, and wild horses waiting to be discovered. This setup gives the game a comforting rhythm, one built around rebuilding a legacy rather than overcoming dire threats. It positions itself as a soothing, animal-focused adventure where freedom to explore and bond with your horses takes precedence over conflict or urgency. At the heart of the game is its open-world design. Emerald Valley is a surprisingly expansive island filled with beaches, forests, cliffs, and hidden paths. Riding across this environment provides the sense of adventure the game consistently tries to evoke. You can gallop across the coastline, uncover ruins buried in greenery, or venture into caves where your horse reacts to darkness with nervous body language. Exploration is also tied to the ranch-building systems: resources like wood, stone, and fibers are scattered across the landscape, and gathering them allows you to restore structures, craft new facilities, and expand your ranch’s capabilities. The focus on slow, incremental growth—repairing fences, adding stables, improving living spaces—creates a satisfying loop that binds exploration to progression in a natural way. Horse care and bonding are central pillars of the experience. Each horse in Emerald Valley comes with its own personality, preferences, and traits that influence its performance. One horse might prefer forest paths but hesitate near ocean cliffs; another might excel at jumping but tire quickly. Grooming, feeding, washing, and spending time with them all improve your relationship and unlock better performance. The breeding system is an unexpected highlight, allowing you to mix traits and appearances to craft new generations of horses with improved stats or unique markings. This adds a layer of strategy and long-term engagement that many horse games lack, pushing players to think beyond the moment-to-moment riding and consider the future of their stable. Visually, the game leans into a soft, storybook aesthetic. Lush color palettes, gentle lighting, and stylized models give the island an inviting look. Some scenes—especially open meadows bathed in warm sunlight or quiet glades tucked between cliffs—are genuinely beautiful. Riding through these spaces at full gallop can feel liberating, and the ambient soundtrack reinforces that sense of peace. However, the presentation is uneven. While horses animate well during moments of care or gentle movement, certain environmental textures, stiff NPC animations, and collision bugs undermine the immersion. Camera control is often cited as a point of frustration, swinging unpredictably or obscuring your path during tight turns or jumps, which can break the flow of exploration. The game’s biggest drawbacks stem from its performance and pacing. Many players have noted technical issues—frame drops, input hiccups, awkward hit detection, and inconsistent physics. Pathfinding can be clumsy, making it difficult to traverse tight areas or navigate precise terrain. The campaign, while charming at the outset, tends to act more like a broad tutorial than a fully fleshed-out story, and once you grasp the core systems, mission variety becomes limited. Much of the late game revolves around repetition: gathering resources, performing familiar tasks, and completing objectives that do not meaningfully evolve. While the world is pleasant to occupy, the lack of significant challenge or deeper narrative threads causes momentum to wane sooner than expected. Despite these shortcomings, there is a sincerity to Horse Tales: Emerald Valley Ranch that keeps it appealing for the right audience. It doesn’t pretend to be a high-budget simulation or an action-heavy adventure. Instead, it aims to deliver a breezy, affectionate experience centered on horses, nature, and rebuilding something with care and patience. For players who enjoy relaxing exploration, slow-paced crafting, animal bonding, and the simple joy of galloping across a scenic island, the game can be an enjoyable companion—especially if approached with tempered expectations and tolerance for its rough edges. In the end, Horse Tales: Emerald Valley Ranch is a mixture of charm and imperfection. Its vision of an open-world equestrian adventure is heartfelt and occasionally enchanting, but its technical issues, repetitive gameplay loops, and underdeveloped systems prevent it from reaching its full potential. For horse lovers, younger players, or anyone craving a gentle and atmospheric riding experience, it offers moments of genuine warmth and beauty. For those seeking polish, depth, or mechanical sophistication, it may fall short. It is a game built with passion, offering a peaceful ride through a picturesque world—one that shines brightest when taken at a slow, forgiving pace. Rating: 6/10

i played this game a LOT on switch, until i couldn't stand it anymore. i got a bit tired of the other horse game i was playing, so i decided to give this a shot on PC. i got the deluxe edition on sale for $12 - if you are coming from switch, IT'S WORTH IT (on sale, at least) it looks way better on PC and i've come across way less bugs/crashes and whatnot

Atp they should just sell the game to someone else. It's a good game with potential but after finding out they dropped development its a bit annoying. Handful of bugs and only 3 breeds to choose from with DLC. Coulda done better.

I hesitated to buy the game because of the reviews, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. **I loved that game!!** I love the graphics, the features, and the possibilities it offers. Sure, the storyline is relatively "short," and you might encounter a few minor bugs, but none that make the game bad. **All in all, a wonderful horse game.** I would love to see more updates in the future! ❤️
