A "Mixed" review option really needs to exist. Game has a lot of good ideas but I find myself getting bored of it fairly quickly in play sessions, also the randomized gear crafting (stuff like Magic Attack + gear turning into higher grade HP + when combined) is just.. not it. Makes the game play out more like spamming gear crafting then just paying gold to reroll it into stats that are more ideal. I like the inclusion of some Three Kingdoms era heroes and Sun Wukong, without them I don't think the game would have held my interest near as long. The art is nice and it does seem like there is care put into the game, I just hope they'll improve on the gear crafting aspect cause it really takes away from the potential of personal decision making and instead has you blasting through mindlessly spamming forge / combine.

I'm somewhat tentative on this game, to be honest. It's more positive than negative, and I do love most of the design. Pros: The game is inventive. The game is mostly intuitive. Most of the systems feel well designed on the surface. The art, audio, and overall production are good. It's got a lot of replay value. I rarely found myself wanting significant UI or informational improvements. In fact, it felt like they went above and beyond to display information in a way that was fairly easy to see. Cons: While there's a lot that's intuitive, there's a lot that's complicated enough that it will leave you wanting an explanation. One example off the top of my head would be the checkbox for artifact mode being easily missed, and artifact mode itself having so much it could be confusing. Like most developers, this one seems to have an extreme love affair with RNG. Every part of the game is infested with RNG. That's not always a horrible thing, but as you make larger and more complicated systems, the RNG compounds and becomes worse and worse, leaving the meager systems meant to address RNG feeling very inadequate. For instance, if there were 6-10 base units, 3 bans might seem overkill, and refreshes feel fair. When you have 19, though, it feels very different. Or, as another example, rerolling artifacts for a high cost on a limited resource might seem fine, till you look at the almost 150 base components which lead to larger artifacts all grouped into families that you have to complete on a per-game basis with a cascade if combo bonuses- and all this in a game made where you're not running endlessly, so there's almost no chance of getting a build you want to do during a specific game. The systems all feed on one another in what would be a very pleasing way except for how robust they are- and it feels like in an attempt to make things more interesting and make you think, plus adhere to extreme RNG, the developer has let things build on each other in counter productive ways. It often feels like systems are fighting with each other and RNG, and you're being forced into choices that just feel bad. For example, emeralds exist outside of the gameplay as a resource to fill out your talent tree- but you basically use them to buy leaves (talent points). You've got to collect them in game. Fair enough. But you also have to spend those leaves on a rank-locked secondary purple leaf currency to interact with another potion of the talent tree designed to minorly help with RNG. Also, if you want to play artifact mode, you get both emeralds, and rubies, and you don't get much of either, so now you've got to invest rubies into this massive porker of an artifact tree where you individually level the bonuses all the artifacts give you, only you get almost no rubies- so you have to convert your emeralds to rubies. The conversion rate isn't great, but that also puts you in a weird spot, because you need to fill out the other tree too. It feels very strange, and not particularly good. There's a bunch of examples of things like this in the game- like suddenly your physical unit you're running with all this attack power, you just evolved it, and now it does magic damage instead. It feels like there's a ton of things like that, where you're constantly building for one thing, and then it evolves into something else entirely, something that is often not remotely helpful. Or another example- in the base game, the gear you mass-forge is done randomly, so you have no control of the stats. Then as you combine it, you still have no control. Add on top of it, some pieces are randomly special, offering things like stat growth every few seconds, or skill cooldown rate, or gold/ore growth/drop%. But this leaves you in a bad situation a lot of times, because you might clearly want that 10 physical attack every 10 seconds on your physical build character with physical stands- but it just got put on a magic attack necklace, so you're left with the choice of wearing it for stat growth and taking a big L on current stats and possibly losing the game, or choosing something with stats you need but no special growth, winding up weaker in the long run, and losing the game. I get the feeling the dev thinks this is an interesting decision (I don't really know, I just see devs say that a lot about similar decisions) but it's really not. It's a lose-lose decision, and you're going to feel bad however it plays out. Why are rewards for higher content not significantly higher? You've got this weird dichotomy where you might want to push into some higher stages, but if you do so, and you fail, even at the last boss, the rewards feel lower than if you were to just do the first stage. I think it might be a sign that rewards are simply too low, when the best method of farming rubies and/or emeralds is to go to a low stage on endless and run it as long as you can. Why do you have to do things in non-endless games to unlock stands, particularly given the extreme RNG nature of the game? It definitely feels weird to me, and it becomes actually difficult and painful, because you need specific stands for bonuses, or for different evolutions. Why are they locked at all? It doesn't feel like this adds anything to gameplay other than frustration. I could probably come up with more, but I don't want the dev to think I hate the game, because I don't. *** So given all this, why am I recommending it? Well, it's still a good game. It's fun a lot of the time. Most of what I mentioned feels like a balancing issue to me, and balance can almost always be fixed. The game itself is fun, though, and worth the price. And despite my frustrations, I think the dev seems actually passionate about their game, which is huge. I'm hoping some of my frustrations will be fixed over time- and man, I'd love to see artifact mode get endless variants (Maybe they exist and I simply haven't unlocked them yet, but I've run out like 7 stages so far, and nada) because it feels like that's where it makes the most sense, where artifacts really could push up your power level, but never really do because the game simply doesn't last long enough.

Was easily one of my favourite Steam Deck games this year. Finished everything up a few months back then noticed the 2.0 Update. I'm about 1/3rd done all the new challenges and it's just as good if not better than I remember. Really enjoy the new Artifact system for gear as well. A great game to chill out with.

Don't pick this up unless you are ready for a hamster wheel marathon. Jojo power ain't gonna help you here. + Good number of stands (different classes) to help formulate your strategy + Once you unlock an advance or better class, there is a good in game system to help you track what you need to merge it + Robust game play that blends leveling up your stands, collecting gold to expand the map, and farming ore to craft gear - Very grindy - Lousy BGM +++ Dev active on Discord and continuously make improvement to the game. +++ Dev still actively updating the game and looking forward to the new equipment system

This is one of the more complex Bullet Heavens out there. It combines some of the common Auto-Battler Mechanics (reroll for Heros, combine them) etc. with the genre. Since you have no idea when you start playing what combos you can get (or which one are good) its kind of difficult. If you are looking for something to "pick up , and be successfull", this is probably not for you, expect the first 2-3 hours to me more of a trial and error "tutorial". There is MetaProgression, and as far as i can tell after 3 hours, it take quite a lot of game time to unlock new stuff If i had to pick something i do not like, its how the item upgrade system works. Basicly you have 6 Slots on your partyleader, the items itself are quite basic in terms of what they do (just stat boni , eg. + HP, + damage etc, no real "run defining items). Thats fine, but upgrading them is a gamble. You combine 2 "similar" items, and get a higher Tier . This Item seems to have random new stats, so you could end up "destroying" your + physical damage swords for a strong, but in this run useless Caster Item... You can reroll Items, but this is also a gamble... Its not the end of the world, but in general i dislike "gamble" upgrade Systems. Still : All in all i like it, its something "fresh" in the bullet Heaven Genre.
