I'm on Observation Duty 3 (IOD 3) is still about finding changes on a map, but this time in a 1st person walk about perspective, instead of static camera feeds like the other entries into this franchise. If you are here solely for more IOD style gameplay, probably give this one a miss, it is too dissimilar from the others to really scratch that itch. IOD 3 gets a lot of hate for the wrong reasons I think. It is still a weak entry into the franchise, and I am BARELY going to recommend it, but I actually really like the premise. I don't think that a game like this is impossible to make, I just think a lot of mistakes were made with this specific game and I would like to see a more polished attempt in the future. There are 2 maps, a house with 6 rooms and a central corridor connecting them, and an office with a larger confusing layout. You have to survive from midnight to 6am (about an hour real time) finding any changes that take place in the environment. Changes include like items moving elsewhere or disappearing, paintings changing, and naked ghosts. So many naked ghosts. If 4 of these changes persist too long without you finding them, you lose and have to start over. It is still expertly creepy and atmospheric; there is nothing quite like finding an unexpected severed head in a drawer when you weren't expecting it. But this is where the game shoots itself in the foot. It can be VERY difficult to get started on maps, as there is so much ground to cover, so much stuff to make note off, that you will often fail maps without finding ANY changes. Walking through maps is just MUCH more time consuming than switching cameras. And while the House map is doable, hard, but doable, the office map is almost impossible. Combine this with stupid mistakes like making the game too dark so you literally can't see some of the changes, audio cues that are way too soft and don't travel, and adding a bunch of clutter and drawers to add even more confusion, and you get a game that just demands way too much to get into it. Its a short game but the frustration does feel like padding. Another complaint compared to the other games in the franchise, is that aside from the premise being different, this entry does lack some creativity. The other games really messed with the fixed perspective and did plenty of things I did not expect. But IOD 3... things hide in a 3D environment, not much else. All that said, this is still a very fun game to give yourself a scare. When you do catch an audio cue and know that somewhere in this place is now a creepy intruder or creepy thing of some kind, so you carefully go looking for it... its great. Its still surreal, weird, creepy, and sometimes scary. And for the low asking price of $3 that is still well worth it.

I don't understand the harsh reviews of this game in the series. Is it the weakest of all observation duties? Yes. Does that make it bad? No. My only complaint is that the game can be too dark, but after adjusting the brightness in the pause menu that was fixed. It's spooky at times, and higher on the difficulty scale which I like. I appreciate how the devs are exploring limitations on the observation duty series, which makes this entry all the more enjoyable.

People bash on this entry because you walk around instead of looking through cameras, but it's still a pretty good game overall. The dev continues to experiment with the formula and that is what really makes the series shine.

This game is a departure from the standard I'm on Observation Duty gameplay by being a first-person game with optional VR support. For me it doesn't feel as tense as the other games, but I appreciate the developer's attempt to try something new.

My least favorite one in the series so far cause I prefer the one with the CCTV! But it is scarier than the previous two games cause this time you walk around the house looking for the anomalies in person instead of viewing the security cam.
