Extremely fun equipment-focused action RPG that is run-based. Get gear, upgrade gear, tweak it as necessary for new areas and boss fights. Runs--even in the final area before endless mode--are good length where things never feel too long. Each area felt very distinct, and frankly I am a sucker for the gloom and dread atmosphere found in this game. Some optimization issues like a bit of slowdown sometimes when there's a lot going on and audio desync occasionally but I wasn't very bothered because I was enjoying things so much. Fight to survive, bring hope to the rest of the prisoners.

"Into the Necrovale" is a twin-stick ARPG featuring an optional Rogulike mode. [The good] Its main selling point is a huge variety of different gear which is available after 1 or 2 runs already. "Normal" and "Rare" items usually grant basic stats, whereas "Legendary" and "Heroic" items grant special effects. Later, you can merge 3 items into one, where "Legendary" and "Heroic" items will allow exponential scaling of a "Normal" or "Rare" base. I would argue that the balancing is exceptional, since items of all rarities remain relevant to achieve a balanced build. This keeps looting lower rarity items rewarding for a long time. [The bad] The game however suffers from inconsistent pacing, with grindy stretches to unlock meta progression. Storage lacks filters and sorting and is quite limited. Lategame is currently unplayable - even on high-end hardware - do to the game being limited to the use of 1 CPU core, which leads to major FPS drops in multi-projecile scenarios, even with high-end hardware, which is not being fully used (GTX 4090, i9 i-13900 CPU). EDIT: Note that the dev announced, that fixes for storage / technical issues are on his roadmap. [Conclusion] Despite those flaws, you can expect roughly 18 hours of good and solid entertainment. That being said, I would recommend playing "Chronicon" first, which is a similar game with more depth, and Necrovale second.

While generally fun, the game is too repetitive. Most drops are worse than what you already have, even early in the game. You can't organize your large inventory, so it's a nuisance to try to merge items or try different builds. And you have to grind to get enough gems to unlock later levels. I'm still giving it a thumbs up to support small developers, but normally I'd give it a thumbs down.

The good: This game is for the people who love to put together unique builds, from stunlocking your enemies to death, making yourself into an unkillable tank or filling the screen with projectiles, this game has ALL of it. There is so much interesting equipment to choose from, having fully beat the game I still kept finding new items that piqued my interest. The bad: The normal mode is grindy. VERY grindy. Upgrading the various merchants and the gear you find is a royal pain in the butt. On top of that you risk losing items if your despair meter is full. This is not a game for impatient people. Probably my biggest gripe with the game is the way it disrespects your time. Fair warning to new players, the roguelike mode doesn't keep any of your gear or unlocks/upgrades for the next run, making alot of the upgrades not worth getting, since the cost of these are not adjusted to account for this (yet). Overall I did enjoy my time with Necrovale, mostly because I like tinkering with different items. Expect the game to be quite the grind though. In case the developer cares about my opinion, please change the wave rooms, I sigh every time I see a room with 10+ waves, it just takes too long.
