ATTENTION AND WARNING BEFORE PURCHACSING A SUBSCRIBTION FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! This is not a "videogame" by the traditional sense. The is an actual, true to life, 1 to 1, most realistic racing simulator I've ever experienced and ALL "racing sims" need to use iRacing as a template. If you know NOTHING about racing, its rules, basic car physics, pit crew operating, never sat through an entire NASCAR or F1 race on tv, can't play a racing game without crashing, you don't take racing and competition seriously and just wanna have fun going fast, or hell, even if you don't have a clean driving record in REAL life, DO NOT EVEN THINK OF BUYING THIS! This is not for you. This not Forza. This is not Gran Turismo. This is not Assetto Corsa. Those games are very forgiving when it comes to contact racing. You're not going to hit the wall at 110mph and recover back on the track like it's nothing here. This is iRacing. A RACING SIMULATOR for SERIOUS or semi-serious and dedicated players. It's exactly like Microsoft Flight Simulator, only with cars. You get a flat, you gotta pull over. Lose a fender and your car loses a bit of speed or wobbles. If you crash at high speeds, your car WILL possibly fly off the track and possibly into a crowd (lol). This racing sim goes DEEP. Really deep. Like, entire race teams and websites dedicated to car tunings, deep. You can even have someone be your real-life track spotter. It's wild. So if you're at least semi-serious about racing and are on the fence on getting this, take in mind a few things first. 1. Your sub only comes with like 20 cars and tracks. You must buy other tracks in order to race on them (more on that in a sec). 2. Registering on iRacing is permanent and you are encouraged to use your real name (or something close to it) when doing so. This is to keep accurate records on your safe driving and overall behavior, making it harder to reregister if you're banned. This is to help keep out the riff-raff from bad players. So you would have to change your info if you want to "delete" your account. 3. IF you decide on getting a sub, I highly recommend buying the discounted year subscription to start with as, if you like this game, you're going to need the time to practice at least a few months before even trying to rank up. This is why the tracks and cars cost money (you get a permanent discount on everything after you buy like 4 things at once, though). It not only supports the game, but it indicates the seriousness of both the player and their dedication to it and it discourages crappy players who think they can just jump in a car and race online, ruining the race experience. But not to worry. The cars and tracks you get on purchase cover all racing disciplines to practice and rank up with, and I assure you, it will take MONTHS to train yourself, not only to drive, but to actually KNOW what it takes to actually race and keep up with the pace, let alone win. You got everything from NASCAR to F1 to dirt tracks to play with and there's even AI races you can edit to practice with. I see the negative reviews on here and they seem to revolve around two things: Paying for the sub/cars/tracks, and racing penalties even without crashing. These are people who don't take racing at least semi-serious, don't know the rules of racing, and, most of all, can't drive. Racing is SO much more than going fast and this game teaches you that to...a...T, and will punish you for thinking otherwise. I was VERY skeptical on getting this game. I even tried to get a refund and Steam gave me the finger. But I'm glad I went back and worked with it. I'm enjoying iRacing very much and can't wait to race in my first pro race. Got lots of practice first. I'm sure it'll take some time.

Good casual racing game. Very beginner friendly, cheap, and accessible too. Just pick up any old controller and go at it. Just kidding. iRacing is brutally hard, expensive, and absolutely not casual, but that’s also why it’s so good. The racing feels serious, the progression feels earned, and when you finally get a clean battle or a good finish, it actually means something. It’s easily the best online racing experience I’ve had.

I pay monthly to take pole and get punted turn 1 by someone who "accidentally missed their braking point". 10/10 love financially and emotionally ruining myself.

I’ve been playing iRacing for a few weeks now, and as a complete beginner to simracing, it’s been both intimidating and incredibly rewarding. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect, I had heard all the talk about how “serious” and “hardcore” iRacing is, and honestly, that’s true. This isn’t a game you just jump into and start winning. But that’s exactly what makes it so satisfying. The driving feels amazing once you start to get the hang of it. Every car handles differently, every mistake you make has consequences, and you can really feel when you start improving. The physics are on another level compared to other racing games I’ve tried and it actually feels like you’re learning real driving techniques rather than just playing a game. The structured racing system is probably my favorite part. The safety rating and iRating system can be frustrating at times, especially when you get caught in someone else’s crash, but it keeps you motivated to drive cleanly and respect others on track. It adds a sense of progression that feels meaningful. There are some downsides. The cost is high and no way around that. The base subscription isn’t bad, but once you start buying cars and tracks, it adds up fast. The interface also feels outdated and clunky for something that expensive. But in the end, none of that takes away from how good the racing itself feels. As a beginner, I’ve learned more about real racing lines, braking, and car control in a few weeks of iRacing than I ever did in years of playing other racing games. It’s challenging, yes, but when you finally finish a clean race or get a good result, it feels earned. iRacing is absolutely worth it.
