The original was good: beautiful, pleasant, clever, but it had a tension where it felt your options were often frustratingly simplistic in the face of how complex the core of the gameplay puzzle was. This sequel adds additional environmental beauty, but more importantly, it adds significant depth to your decision options and really pushes the gameplay from 'neat/pleasant/clever' to outright excellence. This is now a really outstanding puzzle game.

My original Islanders review praised its incredible cleanliness of design, concept, and execution. Islanders: New Shores is the rare sequel that improves on every single element of the original while introducing genuinely new considerations, making it an entirely improved game. I would have easily given Islanders a 10/10, making Islanders New Shores, I believe, an 11/10.

The new developers really understood what made the original Islanders so good and made a big jump forward in quality. Every mechanic from the original game is improved and expanded upon, while the core remains the same. A definite recommend!

I loved the first game. Loved. Played too much. This has done what very few games manage to do, improve upon something that just works. I couldn't have imagined how the original could be better, but.. This is better. Hat off. Well done.
