i love this game so much, i think it's a perfect sequel to the first. i appreciate all the care and thought that went into new shores. the building snapping, new aesthetics, and boons add such a nice feel to it. the dev also saw my request for an accessibility feature to be added and did it, which just made it even better
800 hrs in and confident i'll do 800 more. quite possibly the most satisying game i've everplayed. simple concept with endless permutations, just roguelike enough, fine to play at a cozy beginner level but tons of tiny skill tests available if you really want to max out your score. gorgeous colors, chill soundtrack, the only game i've ever considered myself an expert in. something sooo satisfying about nature interactions
So fun and creative and calming. I could play this all day fr. Ive made some really cute towns because sometimes it just works out right. And other times youre stuggling because you put your town center in the wrong place and the rich people dont wanna have a circus nearby but the regular people do and the tower is in the way and there is no room for the market anymore so you need to hope for a platform pack and then you lose your streak because you forgot that the fortune teller counts points from how many buildings you have on your toolbar. But then you get to do it all over again on a clean slate! yay!!!
This game is surprisingly addictive, with a "just one more island" feeling to it. Only negative so far is that it is a little bit annoying to be moving around everything for points maxing in that mode. I wish something was added for points where you got additional points for snug placement against like buildings. Or something.
The original was good: beautiful, pleasant, clever, but it had a tension where it felt your options were often frustratingly simplistic in the face of how complex the core of the gameplay puzzle was. This sequel adds additional environmental beauty, but more importantly, it adds significant depth to your decision options and really pushes the gameplay from 'neat/pleasant/clever' to outright excellence. This is now a really outstanding puzzle game.
