You play as the legendary assassin, but every movement, every shot, and every dodge costs precious seconds on a timeline. It’s not a run-and-gun shooter; it’s a tactical puzzle, where planning ahead is just as deadly as pulling the trigger. No Keanu Voice: Missing Keanu Reeves’ voice or likeness may feel like a missed opportunity for fans.

This is how you translate John Wick into a game. Tactics game in a novel real-time-with-pause system based upon second-by-second actions. I heard Mike Bithell on a podcast explain that whilst showing the game to stunt coordinators they loved the game for capturing the choreography of action scenes. But fans were perplexed, and wanted / expected a third person action game. Those fans are wrong. The fantasy of John Wick cannot be translated into a real-time action game. Players cannot expect to have the speed of decision of John Wick in a real-time action game. The fantasy of "thinking and acting like John Wick" is achieved by giving players the space of possibilities, time to think that only this kind of tactics game can provide, The art of John Wick; the tight, exceptional choreography of the action are all about incredibly precise movements and timing. Each half-second matters. The novel real-time-with-pause system that makes use of hybridised turn-based UI and options is perfect for this. Each half-second matters; really matters in the way that it would not in a real time action game. In terms of translating both the fantasy and the art of John Wick into a game, Mike Bithell and his team team nailed it.

“Bought it at launch because I’m a massive John Wick fan. Would I do it again at full price? Only if I’ve just been declared excommunicado.” John Wick Hex has some very cool ideas: - Turn-based tactical action where every half-second counts, like you're choreographing a fight scene instead of playing a game. - The achievements are full of clever franchise references — one even unlocks if you start a new game exactly at 18:00 (a perfect nod to the end of Chapter 2). - The music? Absolute fire. Synthy, pulsing, stylish But there’s a catch. The visuals are... stylized, sure, but sometimes it feels like John got stuck in a PS2 fever dream. Most of the talking is done by other characters, which means our favorite assassin mostly just grunts and blinks. The setting and art style are definitely "for fans only" territory. There’s a post-mission replay feature where you can watch your run like a short action film - amazing in theory. But since there’s no way to share it with the Steam community, it often feels like you’re watching a private, low-budget fight between two drunk homeless in an alley. Cool feature. Needs a purpose. As for replayability… it’s tough. Tried going back on hard mode to grind out achievements - realized very quickly that the High Table demands too much. It’s more stressful than satisfying. Final verdict: If you love John Wick and catch it on sale - go for it. There’s some real passion here, and when it works, it really works. If you're not a diehard fan or hate frustration? You might want to dodge this one like a bullet to the face.

I really like this, I consider it a little gem of a game. I grabbed it in a sale so it wasn't expensive, and I'll be honest it feels a tad unpolished so not sure it's an A-List price game, but honestly it's fun. My only criticism of it is the playback - I think it's a wasted opportunity. The angle is very poor on a lot of the playback so you only see Wick shooting at people off-camera and it could have been done better to actually make it smoother and more like a mini-Wick movie. Other than that, I love it - good music, easy to play, great replay value. Recommended.

Its a "meh" for me, not good but not bad either (probably because I'm a fanboy of Keanu). Everything about this game looks half baked: vague/generic story, unpolished graphic, angles are cranky, despite being rtt game you can go random bullshit go most of the time, thus making it not that much of a strategy game.
