Deciding whether to give this game a thumbs up or a thumbs down was quite difficult. My time with it was almost exclusively misery and frustration so I can not recommend it in good conscience, but I decided to give it a thumbs up because it is objectively a well-designed game that succeeds at what it sets out to do. I will split my review into two parts, depending on what type of player you are. For non-completionists:- If you are interested in this game just to try it out, or maybe just play through the maps one time each just to say you’ve done it, then go right ahead. I whole heartedly recommend this game. It looks cool, it has cool music and atmosphere and can feel very gratifying after you get the hang of it. It has earned quite the reputation as a “rage” game but it really isn’t as bad as streamers/youtubers make it seem. Approach the game calmly and rationally. You are going to fall, lose progress, and have to climb back up. That is simply part of the game. The trick is to not be afraid of falling. Fall, climb, fall, climb over and over again, and you will be amazed how sections of the game will go from feeling insurmountable to doable to manageable to easy. It is a phenomenon I have never experienced in any other game and it makes this game worth playing if you are ready for a tough challenge. For completionists/achievement hunters (like me):- Stay far away from this game. Don’t do this to yourself. It is not worth the heartache and the frustration. I am no stranger to difficulty and frustration. I relish it. I crave it. I love a game that can push me to my limit. Just for reference, I have:- - 100%’d over 100 games on Steam including Dark Souls 1-3, DMC 1-5, Cuphead, Getting Over It, and many other frustratingly difficult games - Completed DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal on Ultra-Nightmare multiple times - Completed Sekiro Gauntlet of Severance NG+7 charmless + demon bell + hitless 100%’ing Jump King easily dwarfs all of those challenges. The level of skill required to even attempt some of these achievements is unbelievably high. The whole reason I wrote this review was to issue this warning:- If you are an obsessive completionist type of gamer like myself, your mental fortitude will be tested like never before and you will regret the day you heard of this game.

It took me 7.5 hours, 1298 falls, and 14236 jumps to beat the first map of this game. At its base, this game is exactly what I look for in a precision platformer. Despite what streamer reactions and joke reviews might make you think, this game is not actually that frustrating. The mechanics are as simple as possible, making use of only three inputs, but are very challenging to master. The platforming, while punishing, is both achievable and rewarding; every fall was a lesson! Reaching the summit of all 3 maps, all of which felt unique, was a satisfying and invigorating experience every time. I also found the pixel art, sound effects and music to be very charming and added greatly to the experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone looking for a difficult platformer to play. At its base. It took 137 in-game hours, 16,273 falls, and 299,912 jumps for me to get every achievement of this game. This game broke me down and remade me from the ashes. This game's list of achievements are so insanely difficult both mechanically and mentally that I don't think it's even possible unless you come into it either without a shred of sanity, or a willingness to lose it all in the process. I am a different person to who I was before playing this game for better or for worse. I cannot recommend this experience to anyone - Every fall will be a lesson, and your teachers will be pain and suffering. Follow my path at your own peril.

I bought this game after it got popular with the streamers, i kept my expectations somewhat low. Initially I refunded it after like 1 hr, then I bought it again. The 2nd time around damn this game started to get hella addicting and hella fun, i practically nolifed on it for like 4 days straight from morning till night. It turned into one big group activity on the discord server i'm in, playing with a multiplayer mod while everyone streamed and watched was fun. I sucked at this game extremly badly, took me 46k jumps to beat it the first time around. At times i felt despair and started to think it's impossible, but overcoming each challenge was fun. My adventure with jump King doesn't end here, i plan to start a new game and try to improve my time, i also intend to beat all the dlcs. Been a while since I had such a blast, i cant reccomend this game enough for people seeking a fun challenging game.

After getting the last achievement, I sat there looking at my screen. I broke down and shed manly tears, not because the journey was finally over, but because I know I will no longer be the same person after completing this game. This game taught me that if I put my mind into what I do, I will be able to accomplish it. But I don't think I can recover from the mental damage inflicted when going for this completion. 10/10 would recommend
