Kathy Rain is a point and click style adventure that starts off as a mystery then veers into the supernatural. The game starts of pretty well with the sassy title character attending her estranged grandfather's funeral. After learning that her grandfather was in a vegetative state for 15 years prior to his death, she begins to investigate while dealing with unresolved family trauma. The early story hooks you into the story nicely. Unfortunately, the the ending was rather lackluster and doesn't really explain the supernatural elements well. There's a newer "Director's Cut" version that apparently adds additional content and expand later parts of the game. I got the original because I saw it on sale but you might want to pay a premium to pickup the Director's Cut version instead. The puzzles generally had more 'common-sense' rather than 'moon-logic' style solutions which was great. Puzzles require more logical thinking rather requiring you to do some nonsensical nonsense. A few more challenging ones but nothing crazy. Makes Kathy Rain a good entrance to genre I'd say or if you don't like moon-logic in your games. The game is also fully voice acted, a nice retro art style, good atmosphere and was crash/bug free for me. 8/10

SPOILER-FREE REVIEW Oh wow -- I really enjoyed this one. It's incredibly well-written and I'm glad I got the chance to experience it. The plot is extremely well-done. I was completely enamored by the world-building, the characters, engrossing story progression, and the non-stop action--all packed into a point-and-click adventure game set in the 90s, clearly inspired by Twin Peaks and David Lynch (RIP). I love a spunky, angry, rebellious, devil-may-care Nancy Drew-esque main character. Although the game gets rather dark and mature with its theme at times, there is enough humor thrown around to lighten the mood. The puzzles are good overall, with a nice mix of easy tasks and more difficult challenges. However, I think my favorite part about it is its graphics and setting. The pixel art is stunning. Very nostalgic for someone who was born during the tail-end of the 90s. Very reminiscent of the many point-and-click games I used to play as a kid. Makes it more immersive imo. I remember when computer monitors took up more than half your desk space, and I remember looking up my friends' telephone numbers in the phone book. The voice acting and the soundtrack are what suprised me the most. Absolutely phenomenal for an indie game. I give it a 10/10 despite its low replayability.

Completed this game twice. Moody, relaxing point and click. Love these point and clicks with full voice acting.

Really liked it. Voice acting, dialogue, and story was great. Sometimes the detective combinations were not intuitive, given past characterization of Kathy though.
