I played through this game twice, the first time I went it blind, took my time, and got to the end in 1 hour. The second I followed a guide to get the achievements I missed and skipped the dialogue. After all that, I still have less than 2 hours played. Now I don't think it was a bad experience and I'm not a monster so I'm not going to refund, but I do think the game being that short is something to note. For the pros, I love pixel horror and this style is really well done here, the report gameplay feels good to move around and is easy to fill in, the repetition of it feels just right, as I never thought it felt tedious even in my 2nd playthrough. I also thought it the way it worked to set up scares felt unobtrusive (in the context of playing a game, not the in-universe character) For the cons, I'm sorry but the writing. The dialogue errs on cringe in a few areas and commits too. I also felt like the plot wasn't as clean as it could've been; one interaction in particular felt artificial and entirely for the sake of the story development and bypassing the characters, which would be fine if the characters didn't matter but they do, their relationships and personalities are introduced early so the player worries about them too when the horror truly starts. It also was meant to build tension, which I was in, but it lost me in the writing. There was something about the dialogue itself that just ruined the horror factor for me. For those interested in the specifics: this scene was with Douglas, someone who's worked in the park for 40 years, informing the player character of a murder that happened in your cabin, 25 years ago. Your character was never aware of this, even though you are not the new guy on the job and have worked with Douglas for a long time. Plus, the guy who was killed was Douglas' old friend, and his first interaction with the player is telling us about this murder and strange circumstances (which is where the horror factor lost me, too many details about the corpse writhing giving me visions of a guy doing the bacon dance on the floor I guess lol) It just feels like Douglas was reading a script of important information to tell you right before it's relevant, even though this being his first interaction with the player makes it feel like he would have shared this information in the past before so the player character should be aware. Another example would be with the conversation with Caroline, with the way she's shown I thought she was like, an ex partner of the player character? But he mentions having a family. It made their interactions feel tonally incoherent to say the least. The final confrontation at the end was just cringe I'm sorry, I understand the logic and I don't even think it's wrong but in context of the game's events I was laughing. I'm also still not sure if I grasp what the ending means/is supposed to be, at least on the level of what was going on with the forest and what happens after. But I'm still going to recommend it because I still had fun even if I wasn't in on the horror, as I said the report gameplay worked for me, I just have a soft spot for horror pixel games like these. And I heard the developper is planning an update of sorts? If true that sounds great. If you get this game on sale and want to support indies, I'd say it's worth the money even if I didn't get 2 hours worth. It's not about reaching that timer it's about the ~experience~ and I liked it, I wouldn't be surprised if I played through it one random evening. It's short, it's neat, it's cheap, it's added to my collection. From looking at other suggestions, an endless reporting mode could be fun, I even think something FNAF style (I have never played a FNAF game in my life) where you have to keep filling reports but also do things to avoid threats, like using the flashlight, closing/opening the door, closing/opening the window, etc could be cool. Maybe the other characters could have random chances to come in/call in for help, that sort of thing. I think the developper has really cool ideas and I hope they had fun making this game, I had fun playing it even if it wasn't being scared, I will be looking forward to whatever comes next.

A haunted version of Paper's Please! I liked it a lot. A story with some heart, not just a run of the mill horror game where you're plunked into a situation without a backstory. They did a lot with the resources they had to make you feel like you're really in this extraordinarily interesting work place stuck doing boring paperwork while a horror story unfolds around you. A few nice little scares here and there too! I'm not completely clear on what happens at the end, but I like open-ended stories and I don't necessarily want every mystery tied up with a bow for me. Unlike most horror games, I'd say this has replay value too. I'm almost tempted to do another run to try and get perfect paperwork, because when you first start you won't know what the hell you're doing and you'll get it wrong! And no spoilers, but there's a choice in the end that'll make you wanna play again to see the other option play out.

great concept loved the art style and sound design. i just wish our choices actually mattered. i spent a good chunk of time radioing the other rangers, thinking it would help or change something… but i guess that was all for nothing lol. would’ve been cool to have multiple endings or some consequences to our actions.

For anyone who want to try this on the steam deck, you can switch your resolution to 1366 x 768 so the game can fit to your screen. At first, last report seems to pull you to right into a mundane park ranger's job, as you start with sorting out reports at night. But bodies start to show up on the reports and strange incidents happening in the park. You find yourself stuck in a terrifying mystery that is connected in the past. I rarely play a horror game but this one has a papers please style of gameplay so I chose to try it out. It got me and I shuddered for a couple of times. The building up of horror in the atmosphere is really good. There is one aspect that brother me is that there are quite some unanswered questions after you complete the game. It feels like some of the ideas got abandoned in the middle of development. Overall, it is a decent short horror game that lasts for 1-2 hours for the cheap price of £4.29.
