This is definitely a fun little cute arcade style game with unlockable characters and upgrades! Definitely makes me want to play more to unlock more adorable sprites. Some levels have bugs when the enemies spawn below the screen?? But otherwise everything is so fun to play! Simple fight mechanic with a challenge and great music track!

When it first came out, not the best. After some time the devs made it a fuller game. Not a super in depth game but for sure a fun little game. I am pleased to see how much it has grown over time. Edit: Bought the game in 2019 now its 2026 :)

If I should describe this game shortly, then I would call it a "multitask challenge"! Honestly, as I first saw the store-page video I felt like this game would look "too much". All of the attack-effects and the increased speed in higher levels seemed to me like something I couldn't handle for. But I'm really glad that I still gave this game a chance. It's simply addictive, easier to control for then it looks and offers the right arcade-feeling. You have to attack in the direction of the approaching enemies with the a (left) and d (right) keys. With the left shift-key you are able to do a small dash and while fighting you need to use at the same time your mouse for clicking on flying enemies or for picking up helpful objects (health, power-ups, etc). There's a big variety of unlockable characters available and what I enjoyed the most to see was to unlock crossover characters from this developer's other games (the robot of the game "In-Vert" for example).

Legend of Himari is a compact, arcade-style action experience that embraces simplicity and speed, placing the player in the role of Himari as she tries to survive relentless waves of enemies. Rather than building the experience around story or exploration, the game strips everything down to its core interaction: timing your attacks, maintaining momentum, and reacting quickly to threats coming from all directions. Its pixel-art presentation and anime-inspired character design give it an appealing retro charm, and from the moment you start, the game makes it clear that its focus lies entirely on fast reactions and high-score pursuit rather than narrative depth. The structure is straightforward by design, asking players to rely on reflexes and pattern recognition to endure increasingly hectic encounters. The action unfolds in a confined space where enemies rush Himari from both sides, occasionally appearing above or in patterns that demand quick decision-making. Success relies heavily on chaining combos and avoiding damage, as breaking a combo significantly lowers your scoring potential. This scoring system encourages players not just to survive but to play with precision and aggression, rewarding clean execution with higher multipliers. Boss encounters break up the rhythm of the standard waves, offering more predictable but harder-hitting patterns that test your ability to read animations and dodge attacks effectively. As you progress, you gain access to additional characters and slight variations on the core mechanics, offering small incentives to return for additional runs. Visually, Legend of Himari uses crisp pixel sprites and light animation to maintain clarity even when the screen fills with enemies. The environments are simple but effective, ensuring your focus remains on the combat. The soundtrack complements the fast pacing, though it may loop a bit too frequently for extended sessions. Still, the audiovisual package fits well with the game’s lightweight nature, leaning on charm rather than spectacle. The game loads quickly, runs well even on low-end hardware, and wastes no time getting players back into the action after each attempt. This streamlined structure reflects its arcade sensibilities—short bursts of intense play with minimal downtime. Despite these appealing qualities, the game’s simplicity also limits its long-term draw. The core mechanics do not evolve much as you continue playing, which means that once you’ve mastered the basic rhythm, the game’s challenges and enemy types begin to feel repetitive. Stages tend to blend together, and while unlocking characters offers some variety, it doesn’t fundamentally alter the underlying loop. The brevity of the experience becomes more pronounced for players who expect progression systems, deeper combat mechanics, or a more robust set of levels. Some users have also noted that controller support can feel inconsistent, making certain control schemes less comfortable than they should be, especially for an action game dependent on precision. Even so, Legend of Himari holds clear value for what it aims to be: a small, punchy arcade game ideal for short play sessions and quick bursts of challenge. Its pixel art, straightforward goals, and leaderboard-focused structure make it enjoyable for players who like chasing better scores or briefly testing their reflexes. It’s also accessible both in price and in system requirements, making it easy to pick up on a whim. For those who appreciate fast, minimalist action games, it offers a satisfying—if modest—experience. For players looking for depth, variety, or a narrative hook, it will likely feel too narrow. In the end, Legend of Himari succeeds as a bite-sized, reflex-driven challenge with retro aesthetics, designed to deliver quick enjoyment rather than expansive content. Rating: 8/10

Fun game for a couple hours, then it is just a grind to get all characters maxed out. I would recommend if you can buy it for cheap in steam sales ;)
