I was lukewarm on LOK when I first played it. I thought it was just an okay puzzle game, even putting it down for a few months. Then I came back and completed a few more worlds and unlocked a certain word that made me reevaluate the game thus far. And really, I think the last worlds shine the best with their more unique mechanics. I also found my enjoyment much higher when I started each puzzle by using all the hints. I know, usually in puzzle games I try to avoid them, but it really made the game more enjoyable. It became "how the heck do I make that word" instead of "well what words can I even make?" I think there's just too many possibilities and branching paths in logic otherwise. Especially as more characters and words become available. To put it simply, the first few worlds made me think "why wouldn't I just play the paper version" while the last few worlds proved why. Treat Worlds 1-8 as the tutorial and if you are like me you'll have a blast with the real challenge.

Cute and interesting system for a puzzle game, which also presents a nice challenge. LOK Digital is an adaptation of LOK, a puzzle book that follows the same ruleset. What's interesting about these two games is that they live in very different mediums (paper- and video-), and they know this perfectly well. LOK's main mechanics work fine in both mediums, but some late-game stuff wouldn't translate well to one or the other, so rather than being a direct adaptation of the book's puzzles and mechanics, the game reinvents parts of itself for the screen, showing some new elements you hadn't seen before, dropping a couple that maybe wouldn't have made as much sense. Secrets (yes, secrets!) are reexamined and reworked. This really isn't a case of "the book is better/worse than the movie"; they're both their own engaging thing, and if you enjoy one, I would encourage you to experience both. But more importantly, I think it speaks to the designer's understanding of, and respect for the mediums they're working with. Also I'm hijacking this video game review to let you know that Letibus Design have a few more (paper) games to wow you with, like Abdec or Workworkwork. I've always been a video game player first and foremost, but these were some of the gems that opened my eyes to what incredible stuff paper puzzles can provide, which can't quite be translated to the instant-feedback medium of video games. If you like puzzle games of all kinds you seriously owe it to yourself to look into those. (Okay I realize I hijacked this video a little too much and have mostly been talking about videogames vs papergames, but to stay on-topic: the game is really good!!! I love these mechanics, there are some very interesting eureka moments, I wanna pinch the lokites' little cheeks. All around good stuff)

LOK Digital is one of my favorite puzzle games so far. The gameplay is simple and fun, with puzzles that can be utterly mind-bending, and oh-so satisfying to solve. The atmosphere the game creates is so comfortable. I was able to get out my laptop and play this game in class, at the park, on the bus, anywhere, and it was a solid comfort whenever I needed it. I highly recommend this funny little word game and their silly little worms. Also, for completionists, the bonus worlds and hidden puzzles aren't easy! I thoroughly enjoyed the new mechanics introduced and scouring through past levels to get the 100%. It's very clear that this game was made with love!!

LOK Digital is absolutely one of the best puzzle games in my Steam library. It's an inspired game with all the intuitiveness of the best word games, but a flavor that's entirely its own. The experience -- visually themed around cute ink creatures -- is all about discovering quirky neologisms (e.g. "LOK") made up by the game designers. Expertly-paced levels show you a new way to think about these neologisms and use them to solve the puzzles. Each area of the game will introduce either a new neologism (is that grammatically correct?) or a new game mechanic. (Incidentally, my favorite area is the conductor ("X") one and least favorite is the jumping-empty-space area.) Sleek UI/UX, world-class puzzle design, and a fantastic soundtrack also composed by the main designer combine into an incredible experience for puzzle lovers.
