Hi Mathias. You’ve developed a really great game. You’re also very quick with updates and fixes—I really appreciate how hard-working you are. I hope you stay motivated for a long time and turn this game into a real smash hit. Keep up the good work. I do have a few wishes and ideas, though. I’d love to see German gladiators. It would be awesome if you had to provide for the gladiators—things like food, drink, medicine, and the occasional visit from ladies (you know what I mean). It would also be great if gladiators on the market didn't all cost just 20 coins; it would be much better if they were auctioned off, like in the old days—some very cheap, others expensive or even very expensive. That way, you’d have to compete with other *ludus* owners to see who has more money or is willing to spend more. It would also be really nice to expand the *ludus* grounds further—kind of like in a football manager game, where there are various buildings you can upgrade. For example, a brothel, an infirmary, a harbor to buy food, etc.—I’m sure you can come up with something. Scouts would be a good idea, too—maybe being able to send them out by ship to look for gladiators, ladies, or doctors in other regions. The tactics need some tweaking as well; no matter what settings you choose, the gladiators always fight pretty much the same way. I hope you keep working hard; I’m definitely a fan of the game, though right now there isn't a huge amount to do—mostly just fighting and fast-forwarding. But otherwise, it’s an awesome game. It’s still brand new, of course, so I’m sure there’s a lot more to come. Best regards—keep it up!
Thats a strong recommendation. Lets start by the two obvious down point : - Price is a bit high (id price it around 15€) - Game is... In early dev Now for the good points : - The idea is brilliant as, unlike any Managing games, here, you can pay cash by death and go down spiraling - The money managing (escpecially in the two first season) is smarter than you'd just think - The Dev reactivity, basically we have an update per day, suggestion are numerous - The gameplay is deeper than it would seem (tactic are not so useful for now) - Potential is great - Multiplayer isnt great for now, but its getting better Now, should you buy it ? If you are a bit short on money and want to spend your euros with great ROI "gamewise speaking" : Dont. You'll probably play at max around 50 hours of this game, before it has big updates The game as for now, is very perfectible However, if money is not a big concern ; You'll support an Indy dev, the game has a potential (as Timberborn or Banished, or Manor Lord) to get a huge lot of content, and becoming a classic
Really looking forward to getting into this one, love the genre and been following the development approach which demonstrates a real passion for the game. Will update this review with a full take shortly. ***Update - You begin naked, broke, badly armed, and one poor decision away from becoming arena decoration. From there, you use your brain, scrape together some clothes, find a half-decent weapon, and slowly turn an absolute nobody into a legend. Wiglaff, son of Sigtryg, entered the arena naked, armed only with a stone aze and unreasonable confidence. He now owns trousers. Rome trembles. I’ve followed the development for a while, and the passion behind this game is obvious. It already scratches that brilliant Kenshi itch of starting with nothing and earning every tiny victory. Already my favourite gladiator game. Onwards and upwards. 10/10 — started naked, acquired trousers, became history.
Picked this up on release and I'm only a few matches into my first season, so take this as a first-impressions review rather than a deep verdict. So far: really promising. You start down in Division VII with a small club, scrape together some coin, kit out your gladiators from the market and throw them into the arena. The matches are fully simulated in 3D and — this is the part that got me — losses actually carry permanent consequences. I already caught myself hesitating before fielding a decent fighter against a stronger club. That tension is exactly what I wanted from a game like this. The Tactics panel (setting up starting positions auto-battler style) seems like it'll add a lot once I understand the systems properly. Right now I'm still learning the ropes, and the UI takes a bit of getting used to, but nothing that put me off. It's not perfect, of course — but it definitely has potential, and for an Early Access title it already runs smoothly and the content is there. It's a solo-dev project, so it's not fully featured yet, but what's here clearly had thought put into it and the dev seems active and responsive to feedback, which is a good sign for where it's heading. Too early for me to give a definitive take, but I'm happy I bought it and I'll keep playing. If you like management sims where the losses actually hurt, this is worth a look even in its current state. Ave, Lanista.
