Fun incremental game (not super idle heavy till mid-late game. Has a clear end point which is nice. Overall, I didn't feel like there were any 'walls' that a lot of incremental games get. When it gets hard to progress, retire and get those storyline bonuses. Even the ones that look small help.

An excellent text-heavy incremental game. Lots of unlockable mechanics, an engaging enough story, and challenges that require strategy to complete. I played the sequel ( Magic Research 2 ) first. Both have active gameplay for an incremental game (without devolving into encouraging autoclicker or macro use), but Magic Research 1 is the more active of the two since items are not automatically used in combat. I also found Magic Research 1 to be much more challenging for the majority of playtime, with tough bosses and limited mana regeneration. Of course, the more difficult and obtuse an incremental game is, the more awesome bonuses they can have for the players to unlock. Magic Research 2 expands on this base game, with a few new unlockable mechanics. In Magic Research 1 , the retirement system slightly differentiates runs with the picking of a primary element and spell school, but the benefits these selections confer seemed minor and not properly conveyed. Also, replaying the game to catch back up to where you left off sort of felt like a way to extend the game length. Trimps remains my favorite incremental game, but I did love Magic Research , and the series remains second or third alongside Orb of Creation . You might as well play Magic Research before moving onto Magic Research 2 , though it's not necessary story-wise or anything.

Numbers go up. Dopamine. This game has a satisfying progression loop and "offline time" system. The end of the game is achievable**, which is not always the case with clicker games. **likely in much fewer hours than I have on record. I left the game open but untouched overnight several times, but that's not the most optimal way to progress. Depending on your current cycle state, using the "offline time" system is more efficient.

Just 100%'ed it. Good game. A bit more active than I would have liked, and I'm not a fan of relying on prestige mechanics to make meaningful progression, but I still recommend it if you enjoy semi-idle incremental games. It also feels like the very endgame content is only really possible with a specific build, and I would have enjoyed it if there were options for each school of magic to potentially complete the endgame content and challenges. Now to go and get started on Magic Research 2.

good game. While the art is nothing impressive, the game has several fun systems to play around with. The writing isnt anything fantastic, but it passes with some storylines that kept me intrigued and wanting to get to the next one. At times it can be confusing how to progress further, like getting stuck on a boss, and the game doesnt do very much to help you in that regard. the "offline progression" is unique, allowing you to store time and use it to advance the game when it could be more beneficial. all in all I give the game a 7.5/10 worth the couple of bucks. if youre unsure and if it ever goes on sale Id say take the deal!
