Been playing this since it was launched and it still provides endless hours of fun. So many ways of playing and to challenge yourself. One of the best turn based games imho.

Played the original Master of Magic for probably hundreds of hours back in the 90's, along with a number of other 4x games back in that time frame. Always loved this game and after getting this version with the Caster of Magic DLC, I can say that DLC version of the game is even better. The DLC adds a whole host of new spells, units and buildings> on top of that it improves the enemy AI and perhaps most importantly adds much needed balancing. The one that stuck out the most to me is when you settle a new city. Now, you instantly get a swordsman (think of it as a hired guard when you created the settlers) and now he can be used as instant defense, and now the initial buildings you can create like the Builders Hall and the Granary are cheaper to produce, so you are not spending the 1st 50 turns creating a basic town that can finally produce units or better buildings. not all things are perfect and some might argue some of the changes and to be fair I did see a couple of small bugs. I was playing as the Trolls and when building the Shipyard, it showed that I could build a Merchants Guild after it, but that is not a possible building type for the Trolls. Small issue, and I probably saw a couple other small issues as well, but overall this is the best version of this game and I am certain I will always opt to play Caster of Magic over the non-tweaked Master of Magic. Most likely you are looking to buy this game because you played it back in the 90's like me and the base Master of Magic is everything you remember but I would also highly recommend you additionally purchase the Caster of Magic DLC as it makes for a far better game.

I used to LOVE this game! And... i still do! Worth it just for the nostalgia. Also, it says windows only, but i run Ubuntu, and it ran no problem, Steam opened up dosbox and it runs great, maybe a little choppy as some dosbox games tend to be. I suppose I could have found a free version, since I did own the game back in the day, but I was lazy, so here i am.

Why this type of game faded away we'll never know. This style is so cool. they should expand this genre... would easily sell on steam/stores/wherever. Its unbalanced in the best way
