Sept. 2025
I was so eager to try the game when it was first announced. As a passionate gamer and (mature) student in uni starting my final year in gaming development, and passionate mountain biker, this was dream come true. Unfortunately, I didn't get to purchase the game straight off, and after reading some reviews and watching some streams I wasn't sure if the game is on the right track. Now since I really like Jones bros and I hope my 2 boys end up mad like them riding all over the globe (not necessarily same size jumps lol, but at least racing :D), I have finally decided to bite the bullet and try the game and see where it's heading. (Massive bonus with it currently being in partnership with Special Effect charity). So (sorry for the delay), here is my take on the game. As it's developed in UE, graphics are great as expected, but that also comes with a bit costly running performance. With this in mind, I hope their dev team knows what they are doing, or at least is passionate and stubborn enough to fix things and bring smooth performance. Riding in game feels very interesting comparing to Riders Republic for example. Doing basic stuff like manual and stoppie is just more intuitive thanks to their control setup, and it's more interesting whilst also feel more rewarding. Now after these couple of hours, I've explored a bit, tried few lines, insta360, Dragon's back, Bon voyage etc.. I have somehow finished Helfare farm. xD It is short, but it does help learning basic skills. From the racing aspect, I have tried racing Bon Voyage..oh my.. Not only that Rob Warner gives you goosebumps and makes you feel like you're racing for real, but I absolutely love how some imperfections in terrain affect your laninds, speed, cornering, braking etc.. That was my biggest concern, will it actually be risk/reward for choosing lines, and hell yes it is! I've been racing just this line past 30 odd mins, and I'm proud to be in top 200, shaving seconds from my previous best xD This is all I can say for now after these couple of hours. Would I recommend it? To a casual gamer, YES, try it for 2 hours, refund if you dont like. To a passionate mountain biker? HELL YES. You will love it, and you will try to beat yourself and the others over and over again. Then you'll find yourself chillin' and discovering trails and messing around the world just whilst listening to some cool tracks. Now to Matt and Jono and their team. Couple of things I've noticed that would need some work is tree collision consistency. It feels like it's not the same collision box for all the trees, so somethings i will barely touch and and crash, sometimes I'll go through it almost. On the other side, particularly relating Bon Voyage, just right out of the gates, going on the left inside line, if you just touch the lines you'll be sent back to start. Just about 2 corners after, next to big cliff edge, even if you drop out of lines, and come back onto the track, there is no penalty nor restart. Then it's followed by landing on downslope with big berm before the massive downhill with huge rock garden so to say. Here if you land just before the berm line on the left, onto the grass,it will restart to the nearest checkpoint, even if that feels like natural part of the trail. I hope these few bits help pay attention to similar mistakes / performance issues on other trails as well. I'll hopefully update this review when I try other lines more, if team finds this helpful. I hope console release is planned soon enough, as my boys will absolutely love to play this on their xbox xD If i check the box for product received for free, do I get it for free really? :P :)

Alright, I'm a semi pro MTB racer, and I have been following crews like Matt Jones for years. So first and foremost, I give proper respect where it's due. Making a video game is not easy in today's environment. It's difficult. I am also a 30 year vet of playing video games and come from the PNW who's worked for some of the biggest names in the industry so when I say MASSIVE props to Matt Jones and team for creating this game, I sincerely mean it. The gaming industry needs a proper MTB game. That said, here is my initial take,. The game needs more testing. There are areas on the map that I have already encountered where your bike will get launched for no reason. The feel of riding also does not feel natural. It's choppy when moving and is not smooth. I don't feel like I'm riding DH or single track rather fighting with the controls. It almost feels like playing Descenders but where this game lacks, Descenders seems to get it right. But that's not a good thing because I was expecting a more realistic/smoother feel of riding with a controller and not snappy like Descenders. I was hoping for a different more analogous feel when drifting, cornering, to even shralping (which I'm under the impression we can't do). That said, the Whips feel amazing. The old schools street fighter moving of the joystick now that's, a natural feel. That's how you keep senders like me locked into this game. Bottom line is I am excited to see how this game develops. I am so desperately wanting a solid and proper MTB game because there ain't many options out there other than Lonely Mountain which honestly, gets a lot of things right with MTB. Oh and one final thing, techy chunk, it's just not there. I can see on some trails where it's being attempted but let's be honest. When we ride the chunk, there's a specific rodeo feel you get, it's tight, fast, in your bones, pick your lines, and violently pleasurable. I don't get that feel when riding the chunk in this game either. In fact, I feel like the suspension isn't even doing its job. But I regress because I want to see this game shine. It's made by pros so hopefully as the updates come this game will bring the loam. Give it time. "Good things are coming" - ( Mr. Cheezle - Grandmas Boy)

I’m thankful that this kind of game exists, but damn, the physics are completely nonexistent in this game. There’s no sense of “weight,” and it’s messing with the overall experience.

Okay, my brutally honest first impressions of this game. First off- £30 for an early access game is a little on the steep side. I think £15-£20 would be a fairer price. Price aside, it's a lot of fun and all the trails I've ridden so far seem well thought out and flow nicely. I really wish there was a sort of session marker you could place because it gets tedious having to go back to the chairlift after each run. It's an early access game and does need a fair bit of work, but I see lots of potential especially with the front and back brake being separated and just the physics in general. So overall it is difficult top recommend at the current price but if you are a fan of games like riders republic/descenders and don't mind the price tag then I'd say give it a shot. Edit: I forgot to mention also, while the graphics are decent they won't blow you away and the performance you get is quite poor. My PC happily will run Spiderman Remastered at 1440p 144hz maxed out settings and on Mavrix I'm getting about about 60fps on low settings at 1080p. Not the end of the world but another thing to consider.

Really enjoyed the early access so far. Some reviews seem to have barely launched the game before ripping into it. Plenty to explore and lots of potential. I was picking up on some areas that look ready for events that aren't there yet. There is some work needing done on the world and the textures, some glitchy collisions and unexpected behaviours, the bunny hop is very powerful even at low speed. Setting waypoints to aim for would be a big help. As soon as you discover a trail being able to jump back to the top of the run (outside of events) would save a lot of pedalling back up the trail. I've been loving the soundtrack, brilliant music choice that did get a little repetitive even after just 2 hours. Improving the UI to show how long you are holding stoppies/wheelies for the whole duration instead of at the end of the trick would be good. Same UI improvement for front/back flips (or multiple flips). A MTB school to teach best times to use certain skills for speed or flair and how to choose the best lines may be something to look at in future for developing new players that don't have the real life MTB experience. Once this gets on it's feet, more community events and engagement I can see myself putting a lot more time into it. £30 is a bit steep for early access but I'm invested in the games journey of development. Definitely give this game a go. Getting in on early access or waiting for it to be more polished is up to you!
