I have such fond memories of this late night. I would just be jacking in all night. Sometimes I'd jack out just for variety but I always found myself coming back to jack in. I would jack in until I was nearly blind thanks to the SP, I'll never forget when I got caught jacking in really late by my parents. But then they sat down and they watched me jack in. We got the whole family involved for years jacking in and out, in and out. Even the dog loved to watch us jack in. The Aristocrats.

Gotta catch 'em all! I know it's my destiny! Pokemon! ... I mean chip...omon?? This game just rocks!!! - alright I do have nostalgia and it is strong with this one. Playing with my GBA and competing with my brother who is gonna catch the rarest chips in the universe. This game is just super addicting and 10 hours I have spent so far was originally meant just small sessions, but look at me going in to the mouth of doom and getting distracted from my adult life. I need a break to at least to write this review. Past 20 years have approved that we are getting closer to Mega Man Battle Network's world but maybe, not quite in the straight way. In Megaman universe every kid has a PET device basically a tool which reminds me of current smart phones, although this device has an AI being attached, which is your personal assistant, almost like chatgpt, but much more personal.. just wait few years - they are coming. Our protagonist Lan's PET is Megaman.exe which can be linked into the network and the network is world where you fight against hundreds of different viruses and collect their respective chips. This chips aid you in combat, which start out frequently when adventuring in the web. There is tons of different strategies combining huge variety of chips. While simplest ones can strike single target the most powerful ones can wipe out whole enemy area - some give Megaman an temporal enchantment others heal injuries and so on. The combat happens in real time in area holding 9 squeres on each side and is extremely fun, cohesive, addicting, hectic and also pretty challenging if you want to go hunt some rarer, stronger chips. The bigger the reward the higher risk. With right timing and strategy you can wipe out targets swift even with weak chips although with wrong timing and feebleminded tactic you can mess things up pretty quick. I also must admit that the story is still pretty damn fine and kinda feels even more familiar than in those early of 2000's Network of items, cyber terrorism, AI discussions, etc. Of course it is bit naive to think that one kid is able to save the world from international evil corporation, but yet again, Lan's Megaman is something special and the game has nice amount of twists and turns on their holy journey. Some even more touching ones. The Legacy collection consists the games pretty much they were although with optional softer graphical setting and also opportunity to fight with other player's online. It is a very decent port, but having a gamepad is absolute. I haven't really dared to try out yet but maybe later when completing at least the first game. I know that I'm not even close to the ending yet so, I believe that I need to use dozens of more hours before I reach the 3rd game conclusion! I'm so glad that this game found itself back to my favorite cloud service and I'd recommend this everyone who are into deckbuilding games! If you are a new player I plead you to buy Vol. 1 first and see if it's for you. You get 3 quite long games and I could bet that there is not many who play them all in one sitting. I conclude this review with a tip: Remember to save your game frequently! Back in the day we did not have such things as autosave!

2 years after it got released, I decided to cave in and buy the games on a sale, the question I kept asking was, what's the point of buying this when the games are very easy to emulate? To be honest, not that much. The Legacy Collection is a port of the games instead of emulated, allegedly, yet keeps the typos and mistakes of the original games, "Load Chaud, Sir." is funny sure, but why is "Shun" still there?. The PvP and trading is an aspect that's cool but I had no one to play with could've used crossplay there. Buster Max is a thing. The gallery is a nice bonus, and music player is cool, but it's part of the game so you need to have the game playing if you want to use the music elsewhere, and never far away from your PC/Deck since you can't export the music(from what I know) from the music player. Hey at the games at least are easily available now, I'd get it on a sale instead of at full price, you do lose on save states and fast forward that emulation gives you. BN1 took me around 10 hours, BN2 took me around 17 hours and BN3 took me 23 hours, keep in mind that I have played those games a long time ago and I use the Number Trader the moment it is available. How's each game though? BN1 is fine, but it suffers hard from the first game syndrome, get Bass F from the get go and put it in your folder, you may want to enable Buster Max as well, may want to have a map on the side but it isn't that bad... if you don't have a gap of a week between your play sessions. You can't escape from random encounters except when you pull Escape chip, you start with 1 in your starting folder so that's a 1/30 chance of escaping. Bass is a screen nuke(as long as you don't whiff it) so that basically doubles your chance of escaping. Not basing it on OSS is as questionable as basing Pokemon BDSP remakes on DP instead of Platinum, you should play OSS since it supposedly adds QoL like a map and more content. Power Plant and Water Works are far from the worst things the series had but having a guide for the power plant isn't bad... or save scum it. If you never played the later Battle Network games, just play it knowing the later games get much better, but consider playing OSS or skipping it altogether if it gets too tedious or bad, a shame considering the story is actually not bad. BN2 is where the series starts to get good (Aside from a later part of the game that I'll get to later) and lays the foundation for the later games. You can escape random encounters by hitting L1/LB instead of relying on a 1/30 chance of a chip appearing first turn, the game features a different elemental system for MegaMan instead of the elemental armors of BN1, You get a "Style" after a point in story, and Styles enhance the way you play the game as well as giving you an elemental attack(while causing you to have an elemental weakness), Custom style for example gives you 7 slots from the start of the battle to pick your chips from instead of the basic 5, Guts makes your buster shots hit harder(but sets rapid to 1) and so on. The game is pleasant but gets unfairly hard at times with some encounters(Once you get into Koto Area, make sure to save between every encounter) but in general everything is manageable and has a fair pace. Then you hit the part of the story right before the final boss stuff. Everyone who says BN2 is all good either blanked that part out of their memory or can tolerate an insane amount of bullshit that they could tolerate some of the worst games of all time. The worst part is once you hit the FreezeMan scenario, you're at the home stretch, so you either go through a part that makes the worst Battle Network(4) seem like a good game at the moment, or quit it where if you pushed through it you'd enter the final dungeon so soon. I'd recommend just following a guide or a walkthrough at that part of the game, I remembered that part being bad but forgot just how bad it is. Battle Network 3 is tied with 6 for being the best Battle Network to most people for a good reason. Introduces NaviCust which has been a staple in the series since, polishes the Styles system(and makes your style charge shot kinda shit actually in the process, since you improve it by navicust). The story is also considered one of the better stories, either it or BN2. It's pretty solid for what it is. Also, the post game gets insane, I only have vague memories of the post game since the only game I remember the post game of is the 6th one. Post game has a lot of farming though, but it also requires a skill level much higher than what you'd have after finishing the game, you either beat the post game or the post game beats you, I saw some numbers such as 100 hours but I can't confirm or deny that until I actually go through it myself, BN3 also starts the whole insane thing of having 2 versions? You'd think they'd make a definitive edition for the LC release but no, they must pad the numbers of games. Blue Version gives you 5 different gigachips and ShadowStyle(charge shot makes you invisible, yay). White has GroundStyle(allows you to manipulate the stage) and 5 other different gigachips. Blue is generally preferred because the first gigachip you can obtain is FolderBak but whether it or NaviRecycle is better is... something I see people that are too competitive sometimes debate. I would just pick whichever but FolderBak restores all the chips you used(including itself) so in theory infinite chips and you can reuse your strongest combos, but on the other hand if you need infinite chips to win then your folder might need to be revised. Oh yeah BNLC on Steam would have mods as well which can be used to improve fonts, turn off the internal filters and unlocking resolution settings, and QoL things per game, look up ChaudLoader for more into but quite a few things you can do just by emulating. Since the answer to recommend or not is binary... This is a collection so I recommend BN3 definitely, BN2 with the warning that one part of the game is dogshit and you have to do it to finish the game. BN1 not so much because it aged badly and Operate Shooting Star exists and has an English patch.

Megaman Battle Network for people who haven't played it is Game Boy Advance Nostalgia packed with exactly enough depth in combat and lore that it will leave you wishing it wasn't the jankiest 4/5 game you've ever played. All six times. And they get better, and sometimes they get worse But this half of the pack is what started it all. You gotta play a mid game with 1st game syndrome and then a game people will swear is the best one, but at the end you get a bit of a grindy story mode masterpiece with a dense post game that will make you realize you could have been speeding through BN4 to reach the two "good ones". But the story forced you to be enamored with those little mysteries until all the plot lines had been resolved. You gotta see it to believe it. Play all six of these games to see for yourself, the experience is nothing like its contemporaries. Suspend your disbelief and try and be 11 years old One Last Time.
