Classic game I grew up playing on the OG Xbox. Like the other many war games I played back when I was a kid, they always have great footage and commentary to go along with it so you can understand the timeline and what was going on then. Probably one of the many reasons I love history. Also great story to go a long with everything! I love the note from him to his dad and how it zooms into the picture to then be there in Vietnam. Love it.

I love Vietnam War games and there are so many awful ones. If you've always wondered what an old Medal of Honor or Call of Duty (1, 2, 3) game would look like for the Vietnam War, Men of Valor is about as close as you can get. I played this quite a bit back in the day on Xbox and remembered having a great time. I've really enjoyed getting to experience this game again, especially on sale for $2.50. There's a lot to love about it, particularly having a great diversity in level design, areas, and objectives. The guns feel pretty good and there are a lot to try out. Enemies don't take that many hits to kill, so it feels more realistic to drop someone with one burst. The aiming system is something I ended up really enjoying, but some may not like it. Plus, Men of Valor's campaign hits all the highlights of Nam, like Khe Sanh, the Tet Offensive, being a doorgunner, tunnel rat, calling in danger close napalm, etc. It's easily my favorite Vietnam War shooter, Beating it now has shown there are definitely some drawbacks: - Good old fashioned 2004 jank - Unbelievable difficulty spikes. Mandatory turret segments or holdouts against infinitely spawning enemies where you *will* just die over and over. Now that I'm thinking about it, infinitely spawning enemies is nearly constant. This forces you to have to try and make forward progress and end up taking more hits. I played on Normal and some segments felt completely unbeatable. - Invisible enemies in the treelines that cannot be hurt and are laser accurate. Also, instant kill at times when they're "snipers" instead of NVA regulars. - Not much of a story, although the letter segments are something. - Occasional crashing and a wonky save system. The game will tell you it's saving progress, but it's just a soft checkpoint. If you quit out after that, you lose your progress. Takes some getting used to, but not the worst. I still love it, despite the flaws. It's one of the few Vietnam War games that I'll happily recommend for anyone trying to scratch that itch. But, prepare yourself for some frustration.

It may not offer the best view of the war in terms of realism, but the action flows thick and fast in this hybrid World War II/Vietnam shooter.

Game works on Windows 11. You will need to play it in windowless mode though. There are many community guides on how to start and get the game running in under 2 minutes. So I would recommend checking those out. Now as for the game itself, this is the most unique shooter I've ever played. It's hard. From FPS games I mainly play singleplayer campaigns, and I would recommend playing at normal difficulty on this game because it's hard. Unique health system. You can get a bullet wound, and you need to patch out, otherwise you will bleed out. This game relies on med kits (they can be found through the level as well as looted). You also rely heavily on looting enemy corpses for med kits. In this game you will start appreciating cover's and obstacles. They will become your best friend.

A solid port of a game I loved as a kid. Definitely not the greatest game of all time but if you want an above average early 2000's FPS to scratch a nostalgic itch this one rocks.
